History was made in the streets of Kuala Lumpur today as seven classic BMW race cars driven by former BMW motorsports greats, raced around Jalan Pinang and Jalan P. Ramlee today in an exhibition race marking BMW’s 77 year heritage of involvement in motorsports.
The BMW heritage Race Car Demonstration featured seven special BMW race cars from every era of BMW’s racing history specially flown in from Munich, Germany. The cars were:
• BMW Vi 2 LMR, driven by 4 Time European Touring Car Champion Dieter Quester.
• BMW Ml Pro Car, driven by former Formula 1 Driver Marc Surer
• McLaren SMW El GTR Le Mans, driven by Le Mans 24 Hours Driver Harald Grohs
• BMW 328 Mille Miglia, driven by European Touring Car Driver Prinz Leopold von Bayern
• BMW 320 td (24 hours NBGRG), driven by Marc Hessel
• BMW 320i ETCC, driven by Duncan Huismann
• BMW M3 GTR, driven by Hans—Joachim Stuck,

Wolfgang Schlimme, Managing Director BMW Malaysia Sdn Bhd said, “BMW has a long and great history in motorsports. This year, 2006, is our 77th anniversary of being involved in the arena and there is no other better way to share some of the magic and excitement of our racing heritage than through the demonstration of these powerful machines.’
Schlimme added that being faithful to the essence of racing has always been the commitment of the BMW Marque.

“Our reputation has always been strongly shaped by our commitment to motorsports and this will continue into the future. Since our inaugural year of car production in 1929, BMW has been participating and achieving great successes in the field of motorsports.” Schlimme continued.
Schlimme explained that the cars comprise of a selection of some of the greatest and most well known vehicles in motorsports and are today considered legends in the motorsporting hail of fame.
He said, “Some of these cars date back almost to the beginning of BMW history and are integral in defining our strong racing heritage,”

Petronas Malaysian Formula 1 Grand Prix, is also special to BMW as it is a
celebration of BMW’s new partnership with Petronas under the BMW Sauber Fl

Schlimme said, “The Sepang Circuit and the Petronas Malaysian Formula 1 Grand Prix here in Malaysia is very much regarded as a home race for BMW ae it is also the home of our premium partner, Petronas.”
