Owners of eight and twelve cylinder engined BMW’s manufactured between 2001 and 2009 are advised to bring in their cars for BMW Malaysia’s technical service campaign on the brake vacuum pump to ensure that their cars aren’t affected by defective or faulty components.
The service campaign follows worldwide reports of BMW models with eight or twelve cylinder engines in the US and UK markets encountering oil leaks after chalking up high mileage or are at least three years of age.
“Our BMW cars here in Malaysia are largely not affected by the brake vacuum pump issue as the majority – 98 per cent - of our cars sold here run on four and six cylinder engines. The issue is also only limited to certain eight and twelve cylinder engines which were built between 2001 and 2009. We have identified these cars here and we will be running a campaign to further ensure our customer’s peace of mind,” said Geoffrey Briscoe, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia.
He also added that thus far there have been no reports of accidents relating to the brake vacuum pump. Rectification at an authorised BMW service center will take one day at most with no cost to the customer. Briscoe also advised owners of BMWs bought through grey importers that fall in the affected category to take their cars to authorised BMW service centers to check as well.
