ZTH today

Hi all, i have been surfing ZTH since year 2003 or 2004 (can't remember when adi) where i find this site is an absolutely fun, loads of information sharing too. But sad to say that the current state it's that we have tons of new forummers who come with:

- some questions that been posted again, again and again which can be found by using the SEARCH function. What's the point to put SEARCH function in the page?????

- asking for other people to make decision like which car to choose. Next time, i think there will be asking us to choose their GF or wife too with some criteria given too. Or probably ppl will be asking in zth, "i do not know how to spend my salary, anyone wanna help? "

- Asking some irrelevant questions the wrong thread topic. Damn, it's clearly stated it's "CAR MODIFICATION" and ppl asking how frequent service car la, which car is better lar....adui....come on, post the correct thing in right section.

- quoting local daily main newspaper in the country. Gosh, i think most ppl read newspaper today online or conventional method. Probably putting other countries new is great or i think in future, some forummers will put blog as posting here or zth could be duplicate to www.thestar.com.my / http://www.mmail.com.my

- posting some really really silly postings like " i have 40K and i wanna buy car. Please suggest". Come on dude, r u a kid? Can't you at least define on your needs, preferences and elaborate it? If not the postings will be ended up no where as e'one will be debating since you might be rejecting and commenting negatively on others reply. How can u expect people to share information? i think people need to rephrase the sentence to make it more sense.

I expect to get flame with this postings, so just bring it on. I understand some people purely wants to get information and have some fun, but the purpose of this forum is drifting away till a page for e'one to voiced out their anger, feelings , dissatisfaction and sillyness too. More and more forummers are leaving zth to join other car forums as zth is getting bigger and more difficult to control. :cry_smile: Please help to save zth!!!

This is an exasperated rant. I can relate with it 'cos I wanted to do the same thing too.

The reason I didn't was that I realise sometimes you need to cut them some slack. But yeah, I agree this place needs sterner moderation.

I can agree with the first 3 points but I can't on the fourth because I indulge in that as well. I believe posting the original article/piece (with the link) for thoughts and discussions is helpful.

And I believe we don't want to be so anal with rules and moderation until you can't even crack a joke or laugh about something stupid. So, you get into a conundrum, more freedom = more annoying stuff; less freedom = this place gets a bit too serious and boring.

you may read newspaper everyday, not everyone, and I don't like to fire without base.

do you care about iceberg crisis happen at south pole? finland economic raising? or One of the small country in Africa having riot? At least I don't.

I rather post news happen around you & me,which related to our day-to-day life. Maybe you are reffering to foreign media reporting Malaysia news. Will foreign media have a better prospect for things happen in Malaysia? Yes, sometime they do, but not most of the time.

i hear you well. zth is evolving into something i rather not mention...however i think its ok for ppl to post daily happenings around the country.

maybe 'veterans' like us should really consider retiring and pass it on to the nex generation.

The first person I empathize with is Tom. He started this forum with well being, having trust that members would READ THE RULES of the thread and adhere to it, or at least, the serious and important ones. However, many new members (or so it seems) are coming up with what-seems nonsensical threads and topics as mentioned by wira_na. In addition, the flaming seems to start so easily, majority of it seem to come from new members.

I could recall, back in the first versions, many of us were friends and flames were resolved rather quickly but even then, many of the flames were just misunderstanding. Once cleared, both the "flamers" were laughing with each other again.

Just to add to wira_na's points, I personally feel that various members don't even apply common sense and logics when the start threads or posts their opinion/whatever. One common thing I see is that when someone posts, for example, 5 big photos. The replying member will QUOTE the 5 photos again. I do not understand why they would want to re-QUOTE the photos again and make the page load even slower. Even after telling them not to do it, they still do it. If I were to get down to the root of the problem, I'd outwardly say that it's the parents who didn't teach their kids (the one who quoted the photos again and again) any common sense.

wira_na has made some good points, but like silverfish mentioned, the point about reposting news articles again is both right and wrong. Right in a sense that, yes, we might as well just read it from www.thestar.com.my or www.malaymail.com.my but on the contrary, when a news is posted, it becomes a place for us to exchange opinions, suggestions, views and whatnots, except flames and such. With environments like these, we can use it as a training ground for us to;
- open our minds
- read other people's opinion and NOT shoot them but rather, consider, ponder about it and see what we can get from it
- humble ourselves and see others with opposing ideas as friends with a different point of view
- gain more friends through understanding and acceptance of different views from different race, religion, skin color, nationality, etc.
- discuss open topics like adults (and sometimes act like kids just to make jokes and have a few laughs) and expose our minds
- and bla bla bla

I could see that a number of new members seems to hunger for recognition, power, reputation, etc. and because of that, they post like they know lots of stuff. Does age really need to be the factor that contributes to experience? I believe not so but only if the invididual learns to humble themselves and have an open mind. I regularly tell myself, "who do you (refering to me) think you are to talk and behave like that?" or "you think you are so great to act/talk like that?" or "you talk like that, but do you think you are greater than many people out there?" or that kind of questions. Try asking yourselves, "How great do you think you are for behaving/talking like that?" I constantly find myself at a very low level after asking those questions. And it is only because there are thousands, perhaps millions or people who are far better than I am so who am I to talk like I know a lot?"

Just sharing some points to ponder about.

old timer here.... 3 nicks from yr 2001 til now, 2006...

i've seen zth growing fr a simple forum to a known identity in the car enthusiast society.... but frankly, not referring to how ppl post replies in the forum, but more of the members themselves.... i find it rather an identity crisis...

so many ppl starting their own groupies in the expense of zth's name... no offence if i state your group name... rev saints... teamfuze... and etc.

i mean.. groupies are fine... but i see some go around talking bout their activities, going out not carrying the zth.com name at all, but rather their own groupy name n forum... i don't know.. coz i dont hang out with them, but i seriously find it an offence of not showing a respect to zth.com.

i used to join a couple of breakaway groupies... but frankly, majority ended back at zth.com .... i got nothing to say bout it, coz i merely join em just for the sake of TT'ing coz some of em are my friends...

I have to be honest, i'm still a zth.com member... i go around saying.. "yes.. i'm zth.com member and i hang out at www.zerotohundred.com". I miss the good old days where the big group of KL members all also purely zth.com members.... but the old timers groupies are getting smaller and smaller, til pretty much non-existance.

I remember back at yr 2000 i think... i was once asianauto.com member... i used to disrespect zth.com back then.. even Tom knows bout it... i was shot by some of the zth.com members... well, i got nothing against it, coz it was just a mere opinion, a comparison of a newly formed zth.com against at that time's well established asianauto.com ...... but now, aa.com has crashed and burnt... Tom still welcomes me at zth.com .... i was once appointed as the moderator... but then, only for a short while.

I've seen many breakaway forums come and go...

what i'm trying stress out is... can we make zth.com like a family thingy here? show some unity among each other... i'm sure old timers know what i'm talking about here.

I totally agree with satria_95 bout misunderstandings.... i used to got tangle up wit a few members... until almost throw chair at tt.. but heck.. raging hormones back then i guess.. but after awhile.. when dust settles, all felt silly over it, all were settled with a glass of drink and a track session...

now? wow... nanti call gang la.. this la.. adoi... smack my head.

oh yea, by the way.. reason being why lately i kinda slowed down alot... way way alot was also due to a new member at that time.. couldn't take a simple joke... then went around flaming my name... hai... i see no point proving tat i'm right/innocent coz end of the day, the real reason will emerge by itself. Even the flamer himself doesn't really venture out of his regular channel... reason? coz offending too many ppl.

old ones changed to new ones, old problems also become new problems...

some of the forummers i know just simply said "i moved on." some of them said it's boring. but hey...who still IRC or ICQ around anymore? MSN ruled now...online blogs and forums dominate.

well my only comment as a "small-fry-talk cock-fat ass-slow car owner" is only to bear with it. think of it this way...we used to do the same mistake as they do...only nowadays kids have more budget than us...hahahahha~

i'll stop my naggings here...becoming an old grandfather really makes me grumpy...hehehhe
