where 2 custom make high cam

hi bro,

u have to take out ur cams then bring it over to those re-profile/fabrication shops to do it for u, they can do it for u provided if u have the specs for them to copy, specs meaning your duration, lifting blahh blahh..and its called re-grind cams. u gotta wait for about 3-4 days depending on the fella whether he free or not to do for you...but it aint gonna be cheap, but definately wont be over 500bucks also la...ahahahahhahaa

rgds.

but is reprofiling a cam as good as the real thing ? i mean is a reprofiled highcam as good as an aftermarket highcam?

hi

there are 2 ways of describing a camshaft
1. cam profile (in/ex)
2. Camshaft material

when u talk about regrinding its done on the same shaft thats taken fm ur engine head. they only reprofile it to a different angle or degree.
most aftermarket performance racing cams are made fm billet steel which is known for the strength & durability but its not cheap.... aprox 1K+ a peice. its only avail in popular models with certain profiles.

i think matspeed is quite famous with regrind cams

regrind cams

Stock camshaft has a hardened case.. typically, for metalworking, you won't compromise the strength too much if you dig in 1mm or 2mm below the surface.

Regrind cams should be okay, even though it's less hardy than fresh billet-machined cams.

Some people try to regrind with a bench grinder, or if available, a belt sander/grinder.

What I don't get is that some people claim that they can increase the duration without affecting the base circle diameter. Wouldn't that mean that the ramps will be too steep?

NEIN!

Regrind is done on the Lobe's heel.

Contrary to popular belief, regrind is not done on lobe toe because that will result in SHORTER cam duration and lower lift.
