what is this hook for?

The hook is use mostly on tracks cars like the JGTC. Well GT cars have a hook on the front and on top of the bonnet but both these hooks are welded to the chasis. As race cars have very small ground clearance some times when they ditch into a gravel trap the hook in front of the bumper is totally not useable as it is burried in the gravel so they will use the hook on top of the bonnet to tow the car out. :_:
hmm.. make sense.. but what a wannabe...

now our road full with wannabes la...
u sometimes see some cars with extra hook in front or behind bumper... for racing cars, it is used to pull/tow the car... but on the street, the towtruck will jz lift the whole car up... so what's the use of that stupid hook??... i doubt it strength either too...

I got to give it to you ppl - great e-maginative skill, hahaha :))

Anyway, if I am not mistaken, TitanRev is right. They are lifting eyes. Directly welded, or bolted to the engine. It probably enable a crane to fully lift the car out of place. I have also seen pixc where they put a lifting strap across both side window (down obviously) and lifting the car by its roof. By the way, don't do this to your car (and of course they, the race boys can do that with roll cages on).

Or maybe it is used to open very, very big Beer Bottle Caps ... aka it's a BIG bottle opener ... ;)
