my throttle body just kong-ed on me, so i was wondering, which would be the best TB to use for a b16a engine, im talking about TB's which are bigger than b16a OEMs. any input? thanks.

TB can konk one ah?
the TPS and MAP sensor can konk, that i know,...

i've heard of people using the f20b TB,... try googling for info,... then shopping for it, easily available,...

haha as in faulty la, giving me problems  f20b? hmmm roughly how much would it cost?

upgrade to b16b one arrowhead, couple it with type R intake manifold.
16a 58mm at butterfly, b16b is 60mm.. better throttle response. if u interested pm me.

ohh ohh update is that.. not my TB kong.. its actually the throttle cable. my b16a is from an EG halfcut, but i dont like how the eg throttle cable goes, so i change to the EK one, where its more neat. apparently, its the cause of the problem because the bracket holding the cables not really ngam...

funny, i've been driving my car for abt 2 months, only after puspakom inspection it became like that..

problem was, when i accel.. the spring on the throttle cable has no tension, therefore my RPM will never go down.. and i had to pull the accel paddel to lower the rpm..

Ah, with that kind of problem, there's only the solution of fabricating a new bracket that can apply sufficient tension on the tb cable reel, or simply getting another TB.

But honestly, for all it's bends and kinks, the routing for the EG is better IMO, as there is no bends, hence it should be smoother/lighter.

Still, to each his own.

shiro: yeah i've changed back, but i kinda dislike how it goes around the world. if i wanna use back the EK route cable, i'll need an EK TB? would it rectify my problem if i insisted on using the EK route :hmmmm:

Not sure on that, I think the TB is similar, it's just that the bracket on the intake isn't far enough to tension the cable properly I think. I've never noticed the EK TB reel to be different that that of the EG, so I don't think it needs more cable length than normal to open the tb plate fully.

If you say it hasn't happened before puspakom check, have you checked the tension on the throttle cable? It could simply be too tight, or tensioned improperly, leading the throttle to open slightly even with pedal fully released, disabling the IACV, and causing various idling issue. it could also be that your throttle pedal is sticking, or even the able being kinked more than it should and causing resistance. so check that too.

Well, without looking at the how it was installed, that's what I'd check first, anyway.

the problem was, when i hit the accelerator, the throttle opens, and it never closes(no spring tension/pull back from the TB at all). i either had to pull my paddle for it to idle back at 0.8k rpm or do it from the TB. well, i was told by my runner that the throttle cable (EK one) was adjusted to the extreme(the part on the intake manifold, right b4 the TB), and my mech said the exact same thing when he saw my car. he recommended me to use back the oem EG route, because of my brackets.

as for tension, im really not sure. it seemed fine. i even drove my car from subang to padang jawa b4 the inspection with a lil hard driving and some uncle driving cuz i was late. hehe

strange, because my B16A TB and a few others i've worked on have quite stiff springs, (if you had one that snapped back while your fingers are in the way, you'd remember it for life, LOL!!) it should have sufficient tension to pull back the accel pedal, unless the wire is kinked or too stiff to move.

haha exactly like my problem...ive got idling problem..sometimes too low then engine mati and also when driving bila nak stop the car sometime the rpm stay on 2000rpm eventho i didnt press the pedal. then i check throttle cable also rosak..as in sudah keras..then i change to a new one..now feel so smooth...then hantar service the throttle body, now idling sudah okay n stable. 1 day only okay...then i have the rpm problem again, sometime still stay on high rpm..really tension bcoz i need to press the pedal again then okay. after i manually tarik the cable using hand then i saw the spring didnt pull back..call mechanic then he said my throttle body dah nak K.O :)

defari : haha sounds quite similar, but mine, lets say i tekan until 5k rpm... it will stay there cuz no pull back at all. my problem was the EK route throttle cable, not ngam with my EG bracket so, there was some problem there. changed back to the EG route throttle cable, everything ok.. so far... i hope...

bro arrowhead, ur car got free autocruise aaa, can stay at 5k rpm :D....but seriously, if u gonna change throttle body, get aftermarket one with slightly bigger diameter, lessay 68mm ....it'll be around rm500
