Super-Charge

Therefore, the distance between KL-->Penang is nothing serious as compared to KL--> Phuket.
who care?...i means long run high speed between ..always keep 180km/h to 210km/h. (KL--> Phuket means nothing for me..kura-kura also can do it)

gerard, let me know when the supercharger for the 1.3 satria (siemens ECU) unit is ready. Im interested. let me know how much $$ it is too

kamfu,

The journey from KL to Phuket and back took the entire convoy 4 days in total.(Travelling days). Let me just explain briefly to you how a long journey convoy works especially those involves travelling overland...It's not a soft and slow drive with lots of sight seeing and stopping... for shopping and food...We have very tight schedule to keep up and that's the reason for travelling at such high speeds

From KL to the border with police escorts we travell at the average speed of 180km - 210km and from the boder onwards the Thai police will take over as escorts and speed are then reduced to 140 - 160 on Thai B roads (not highways) so that converts to high speed driving for the entire journey..To and Fro..

The only time we do stops is for petrol & food, toilet breaks are usually done during fuel stops...or food stops. Never in between..You get left behind...The convoys stops for no one and for no reason....

We drive from 9am till late evening around 8pm - 9pm...Fuel consumption was good too compared to other GTI's in the convoy...So there is no qualms about this issue...as far as the members of the GTI convoy and the president of the club is concerned...They are very concern with force induction cars tagging along during such trips as they tend to encounter problems and consume more fuel compare to other cars in the convoy.

So like what mkjb mentioned earlier, we have proven many people wrong for many mis-conceptions pertaining to superchargers, the kit and it's related parts from doing this trip and it seems that Penang to me is rather "not far" as compared to Phuket which is of course in Thailand.....On the high speed issue you constantly stress about, let me assure you that this sc kit will take you there ( the speed you want) at least twice the time faster than your na car with mild modds....That's a strong assurance I can assure you....

Hope that answers your question pertaining to long distance driving and it's speed.

Let me just add too that the statement you made with regards to "KURA-KURA' can also do a trip from KL to Phuket, to me is rather naive...May I ask, have you ever try such an overland trip before???. Or at least to Phuket?....with any car clubs???.

Cos if you have done it then it would be better if you confirm it as that will re-inforce that "Kura-Kura" statement of yours...

Regards
gerard

kodial_gbl,

Many thanks for following this thread and for your support... :D

No worries, once the mmc range is completed we will then transfer the benchmark over to the siemens and test them all over again...

When it is ready, I will inform you guys about it and the price too...

too bad carbies cant fit the SC... :(
Bro,

So sorry to dissapoint you, just worried that your engine internals will not cope to these additional stress, especially when the timing adjustments is very limited compare to efi...

Like I've said before, you never know what other kits are out there for you..Just hang in there..

man...is it ready for wira 1.5 with the deadly siemen vdo yet?....
Bro,

I'm sure the siemens is not that deadly like how you describe it... :D ...else Proton would not use them for mass production.... ;)

The mmc 1.5 would be ready soon (I Hope) and once it's ready, we will transfer the benchmark set from mmc onto the siemens and test it all over again to see if there is any minus points as compared to it's mmc counterpart...

I will keep you posted on the model and status of the kit...ya.. :D

mkjb,

Many thanks for following my thread from the beginning, I was very suprised indeed that you quoted my trip to Phuket with the GTI club and the testimonial of the sc kit..to Phuket. :D ....

It shows that you and many others in this forum is keen on our development on the sc kit..or curious about the superchager and it's benefits...

This in return will motivate us further and strive harder to improve..

Thanks for all your support on all issues involved...Many thanks again...

regards & cheers bro,

Gerard,

I had read the review of your supercharger bolt on kit.
I am very impress by the amount of work and time that you had put in.
Thumbs up for you !

I had read the Asian Auto, Kereta, and Hypertune magazine some time back ago about your supercharger kit.

I am looking forward to your lauching of this kit.

Btw, is the supercharged kembara appear in the Kereta & Hypertune mag own by you?

I am thinking of changing my current car to Kembara so that I could supercharge it as well.

Will it be advisable for me to change to Kembara and then supercharged it?

Pls advise

mkjb,

Thanks for following my threads and "YES" the GTI did appear in some local magazine before and "YES" too the Kembara is my other ride too.. :D

It does takes up loads of time developing kits, testing them and the parts fabricated and mapping them too but I guess, that where all the fun is hidden .. ;)

Like I said....any form of support from you guys will be very helpful...To motivate and keep us on the right track to strive harder... ...

Honestly, this kembara started the ball rolling, I enjoyed the low end torque and mid range power the sc churned out and it suited my driving style which is a daily driver and that's where the kembara lacks, the torque and mid range oomph.

After using it for over 2 years..I decided that we should try this supercharger concept onto proton cars and develope it as a bolt on kit, simple and sweet, as I believe many end user are just like me.....desperately in need of low end torque at the right rpm's for daily driving...Thats how it all started... ..Back to your questions

On the Kembara issue...There was once a kembara that was equipt with a sprintex supercharger modded in australia but brought back to Malaysia as a sample car, it was using OEM engine..Just + the sc unit and some mods here and there...It blew pistons twice and the power was average and not to my liking....at that time I could compare it to mine as it was running a supercharged engine, plus the cost involved was rather high...

I'm not saying that the kembara engine could not take a sc unit but it's just that we have not done one before...Mine was an engine transplant from the 4agze and not oem bolt on...

Overall, the kembara is a nice compact car to drive around (town and light off road is fine) and it's cute too..So it all bores down to your personal liking and taste...I love it to bits...Hahaha :D

Have fun and do keep in touc B)

Regards & thanks
gerard

Any SC for my stock KE70..??
Bro,

I believe the KE70 is running on carb and not efi thus tha main complication here would be timing or ignition controll, which is very limited and I don't feel very confident by this issue..

I've tried it on a 1.3 wira with carb before, power is fine (respectable) with ran on pings on higher rpms and there not much we could do to retard the timing...We abandon this project for the 1.3 wira carb.. :(

Next best bet would be an engine transplant to the 4age or gze series...Just my two cents worth of opinion ya...What other mods have you done on your ride?.

Regards & cheers

Many thanks again bro, you are a great help...

ps: you really do surf and do your homework well..Hats off to you..

Gerard

No worries dude, was very easy for me to do that. Google is a great search engine just key in supercharger in the subject and you can get many foreign tech articles on supercharging. But those angmohs sell SC kits damn expensive man.

Honestly, I have never seen or heard a tortoise(kura-kura) walking all its way from KL to Phuket and don't forget walking back to KL again.

My car was in front of Gerard's SC SGTi during the entire Phuket convoy. Those never driven in single file convoy will never no the among of stress and punishment put to our cars. High speed on highways and constantly down/up shifting gears on village twisty bends in southern Thailand.

Any highly moded sgti(force induction especially) not able to clock at least 380km full tank are not encourage to participate in the convoy. In the end it turned out that the sc sgti had the best fuel consumption and even better than stock gti. We have to keep down shifting to keep up with the convoy where as the sc sgti has plenty of torque and seldom need to use its lower gears.

What Gerard wrote about his sc sgti was true and it didn't give any problems during the entire trip. At that time the SC kit was still in its R&D stage and the Phuket trip was the acid test for its reliability.

Note: I am not affiliated to Gerard's workshop and I don't come out with him for drinks or chit chatting, not even once. I don't get anything from him for writing this but just want to uphold the truth.

kamfu,

Could you explain more in detail about what happened to the SC'd GTi with the "blown engine"? Pls include details about how the conditions were like when the engine "blew", such as how he/she was revving, fuel pressure, boost etc.

Don't worry about the technicalities, we ZTH forummers can digest quite a bit of info! ;)

wow... finally see the pics... damn, i must say it's quite neat... would definately think about this kit for my ride in the not too distant future... :)

greeting gerard bro.......

thanx for the conversion from siemnens to mmc on my GTI.........cant wait to in stall the SC kit once i sort out my $$$.even the conversion from siemens to mmc are quite powerful man................

and yeah would like to know more about the story of SCsgti engine which is blown and the KURA KURA story......
so if u care to explain more KAMFU with some evidence pls............it will be great.

thanx again bro gerard n keep up the gd work man

wah... :o your kembara do engine transplant :o
4agze is toyota engine rite?
which model?

then i think i should drop the idea of changing to kembara already coz of $$ limited.
I thought that you had develop the sc unit....

Will you be developing any sc unit for the kembara in the near future? :D

If it does, then i think this would definitely solve many kembara owners problem like power.....
