ST 150 & AT 151 Corona

hey guys, planning to get the NGK Hyper Silicone Cable for my ride BT 20v auto. cost around 400 bucks. but was wondering how much differences does it makes compared to the stock cable (better FC, noticeable pickup/power?). already on Iridium spark plugs currently.

teikwing: the thing about cables and plugs, it all depands on very controled enviroment when they do their testin... Ok the reason u may use the iradium plugs are so that they last longer...bigger diameter cables coz u get more conduction from coil to plugs... So generally speakin, the more electrical current u send to the plugs, the stronger spark u get... Hence u burn the fuel better... Increasing hp all still depands on so many other things as well, ur settings, engine condition, petrol, than u may get another maybe 2+ hp... I don't u can really feel that power... And than there's a problem when ppl will rip u off with imitation products... The may look bigger, but coz of the material they use, it has higher resistance and make u lose current! So becareful... On the other hand it will make ur engine colourful for those who like that!

many told me that it would make a difference although at times it may not be so noticeable hence the doubt. would rather spend 400 bucks on something more useful and proven.

anyway, the reason i asked is due to many claimed it improves responsiveness.

if its me, i wait till my old cables fail, than i'll change back to toyota spec... Like a fren who always tells me, toyota engineers always do things for a reason they don't do things for fun...

bro ragerunner
you dad have a point there
actually when you cut the section, it will reduce the moment of inetia of that parts and the consequences, it would be the point where crack may be started. that's why manufacturer design the back fender such way since it will strenghten that wheel arch. the cut section will be where the stress would be maximum at the fender

Teikwing: Plug cables.. It's very personal. Some people say it makes a difference, some people say it doesn't; a pretty reputable workshop has told me before that a good set of plugs and cables car make up to 5hp difference on dyno, but I think majority/average users' feedback is only based on their "butt dyno" (no offence meant there). Hence, to some, it doesn't make any difference; to some, it might just be psychological hp; to some, it really does make a lot of difference, there's no way to really know until you try it out yourself. If you find that it makes a difference to you, great, money well spent; if you don't feel that it makes any difference, just take it that you spend a few hundred bucks decorating your engine bay; or you can always sell it off and use your stock cables, as branded plug cables seem to have quite good resale value.

Bro Muzhaffar, I feel really really sad for my fender now..:bawling: In what instances will the fender be stressed? Will the cracking of the fender occur over time anyway for normal street use? Or will it occur only on impact? Sigh. I'm not really keen on running around on 185 tires, yet I want to protect my car body from rust and damage too, short and long term. Bro Muzhaffar, since your car fender was knocked like mine, what would you recommend for me to do now, if I want to think long term? Pull the fender back out; or keep it folded, ie knock it more so that any potential holes are closed up, spray it, and seal it?

@ragerunner: well, since i am already on Iridium, i thought it would be more effective if i pair with a good set of plug cables as well. the thing is my halfcut plug cables are still in good condition. probably maybe my plug cables kong dy or the rubber worn out then only i replace with a good one.

rr: if u think mine is a monster what about the car with a 3sge beams, enkei 17", brembo 4pots brakes,vr4 front and sm4 back bumpers, skyline spoiler, and side skirts honda backseats, rx7 limited suede frontseats an airplane looking cockpit and many other things done to a corona???

That car.. That's not only a monster. That's a fire breathing dragon that even the Godzilla's are intimidated by..

Bro corona_ice...I used to ride along with sifu Yau while the 3SGE was still on his monster. Still remembered how crisp the engine sounded while he floored it....things got even wilder when BEAMS was introduced into his monster. Pure mental just to sit inside and floor it all the way to redline... hehe... i guess you should be lucky to continue his 3SGE legacy.

No wonder la, I've been sneezing. You guys have been raining praises on my rusty bucket.

Thank you, thank you for the kind compliments, guys:redface::shakehands:

For those that've not sat in or seen my car, pls don't believe a word of it. It's nothing like what they described. Hehehe/

Bro Prem,

You've not driven my car after the the e-manage installation, right ? Maybe you should coz you could tell the difference before & after. I'm much happier with the performace now.

Still remember that Chinese chap we met in Ipoh; the SEG with BEAMS ? He installed to my advise & installed the e-manage Ultimate but was not dyno tuned. He opened the rev cut further to 9000 rpm, I think. He says it's much better now. Too bad we don't have the chance to meet up again to compare.:driver:

it's hard to talk about corona's and not have u in the picture... i can tell u that ur car did inspire me to start doin up mine... all the jdm upgrade and all:adore:... b4 i only really concentrated on the sound systems thinkin that's all i could do!

Yup, haven't got a chance to test ur BEAMS after the e-manage and total tune up... I hope I could tell the difference coz it has been prolly about 2 years since I last saw your ride...hehe

Wah... the dude set the rev-cut at 9krpm on stock motor? Damn... he must be pushing his luck there... I hope he's not constantly hittin' the limiter there else he's gonna have valve float problem and kiss his pistons good bye...hehe
Perhaps we should organize another "wangan" run again...

bro pcmod: if sitiawan is considered closer, maybe when i go to pick up my car, we could meet up there??? what u think?? u get to test bro yau's car as well!

dear sifus, would like to get some advice. currently on blacktop auto with 2.3" straight pipe (w/o bullet) and a straight-flow muffler. love the responsiveness and low-end torque generated. however, it may be abit too loud at times when comes with high rev and driving at highway.

hence, would adding a bullet lowers down the noise but at the same times affect the performance too?

just got my ride in few days and previously on a stock SEG 1.6" piping with s-flow muffler and a midbox. no problem with hitting 180 km/h but sluggish pickup.

I'm flattered by the kind compliment, bro. One of my intention of putting this thread is to inspire Corona owners to do up their so called "uncle" ride.

I also did have the thought of pushing up my rev limit but maybe to only 8500 rpm coz it does feel that there's more power at the end. Even the dyno graph shows that at the rev cut, the power is still going up. I think there maybe another 10-20 ps available up at the end.

I think the valve issue should be ok coz we've got valve pockets in the piston. If I'm not selling my car, I maybe consider stuffing the Honda's K20 oversized pistons inside or using the 5S block as a stroker kit. Raise it to 2.2 or 2.3 litres...

Wicked suggestion...hehehe

Sifu PCMod,

maybe you can help with this ? I don't know much about the BT...:flute:

Hi,

I'm new comer here. I own a Toyota Corona ST150 with 4A-GE 16V, previously installed with 4A-GE 20V blacktop (a powerful NA engine from Toyota, is nearly has 175bhp).

Hi & welcome to the thread of Corona owners, Chris.

Wow, the Blacktop 20v is really a powerful engine, huh ? Didn't know it was that powerful.

So why did you change to the 16v then ? Any pictures to share ?

Hehe.. Sense abit of sarcasm there, sifu..

Btw, big thanks for the video, sifu!:adore::adore::adore: Really informative and relatively easy to understand..:top: although I must say, without the first hand practice and experience you guys have, I can watch all the vids in the world but I'll still be a noob.. Anyway, thank you for sharing the vid, I really appreciate it!

You're welcome, RR.

Honestly, I've never given much thought about the BT. To me personally, it's has also been a disappointment & all that hype about this engine is over rated. There's a new kid in town to watch out for is the Nissan's SR16 Neo VVL. I think that is also a good contender in the 1.6 litre class.

So among the 3, (Honda's B16A, Nissan's SR 16 Neo VVL & Toyota 4A-GE 20v BT), I'd place the BT last. I know it'll be hard for Toyota fans to accept this but sadly, it's a fact that we Toyota fans have to face.:bawling:

hummm... y another guy has downgraded his 1.8 to a 1.6? For me, the bigger the better! Well the choice is really up to them...
Rage: if i'm not mistaken, u doin medi rite? Well even there, u'll be practising on dead bodies first, so here also same lah! Practise on ur car la! I did the backlights installation on my own, including drillin to add the number plate lights... Followed the technique of chip foose! Mask, measure twice and cut! And if i do say so my self, it does look good!
