Sandakan Drag Race

Looks like Sandakan STC has organized and run an event with success for the first time, but not without some problems. I have my own share of experience:-

a)How come not many cars taking part? Possibly the organizer wanted to handle a small size event for a start? That may explain why the event was only annouced only less than a month before the event?

b)Delay in between runs. Probably not too many cars taking part which prompted the organizer to "go slow"? After all, it was a 2 day event. The heavy rain in the afternoon on the first day helped to "drag" the event.:) They still wanted to sell more tickets at the entrance before the event can be over. hehe

c)NO proper MC(master of ceremony) to keep the paying spectators informed on the results, happenings, etc. They had one initially but either the Audio system or the MC had somehow run out steam towards the middle and the rest of the event? Fortunately, they still had a LCD TV at the grandstand building to telecast "live".

d)Timing system malfunctioned on the second day in the afternoon session. It happened when they tried to switch over from 400m finishing line to 300m finishing line for the "Open" category. I thought they normally can switch over by just a simple flick of the button at the control. But it makes every spectator wondering what in hell was going wrong.

e)Wish they had toilets located at the starting area/compound. Even the VIP spectators had no toilet within short distance. The ground condition was already wet and soggy after the heavy rain from the first day. Not too much problem for the 'guys' but pity the women folks though.

But overall it was ok.

cheers

Last year was a good year because: (1) Good palm oil price(and money for most), (2) No H1N1 flu :)

This year :(1) World financial crisis(not much money for most),(2) H1N1 flu. Worse still, the race event is still "kind" of "low profile" so much so that not many know about it. And the race track is still not long enough to bring out the best potential ET for Open Class cars because this top class of cars are only allowed to run 300m drag(due to not enough braking distance for 10 second and faster cars) - an anti-climax.

However, Sandakan is still good for delicious and cheap seafood and a destination for a break away from home during the public holidays. :)

Cheers.

i heard the track had been resurfaced and extended. should be much better. anyone can confirm on this?
