ron 95 for fd3s?

FD3S can run on RON92 - 95. But if you are pushing it on track, you will want to run as hi octane as possible - RON97.

will there be any effects when using RON95?

It will blow up if you red-line it...

J/k. The lower the octane, the easier it is for the fuel to detonate under compression = easier for engine knock to occur = bad for your engine

Generally, sportscars should use high octane fuel because they tend to have higher compression in the chambers = turbo, supercharge, high compression NA.

It is very recommended to use as high octane as possible for rotaries because it is generally high compression and high(er) operating temperatures. Especially if you are out gunning it.

The main affect is engine knock - which is very bad for any engine. The FDs automatically throttle the fuel the moment it detects knock. I think it is the same for the RX8.

[EDIT] I forgot to mention, if you use lower than recommended octane fuel, your ECU will automatically adjust to compensate for knock = less power. But the reverse is not true - using higher octane does not increase power.

It's really an odd thing. When I use Caltex RON92, it is difficult to start my FC. It needs to crank a while more before starting. This is in comparison with an instant start using Shell 92-95-97.

But it always starts la...

How much do you love your dahling? Do you want only the best for her? Or are you satisfied to give her a lower grade fuel and pamper her once a while with hi-octane?

RON 92-95 is sufficient. But if you go out on a track, I would recommend you to use RON-97 (V-Power)... that is unless you somehow manage to get Japanese Hi-octane RON 99 or racing fuel RON-105...

yeah but if u do use RON 92-95 does it have any bad effects on the engine in the long run. that day i pumped in RON 95 and noticed my fuel pressure was fluctuating a lot...it that one of the effects?

I doubt the octane rating affects fuel pressure.

We want to reduce the chances of pinging. In fact you can use even lower Ron than 92, the question is how much do you want to blow your engine or even risk blowing it.

Let's not be penny wise and pound foolish.

kk13, that is not a normal thing. Keep an eye on it as there may be something else wrong such as fuel pump or filter.

but the thing is it doesn't happen all the time...only sometimes when i stop at a traffic light and the car is idling...the pressure varies between 2.5 and slightly below two...after that it clams down on its own or when i accelerate...maybe the whole time I'm driving it, it only happens once or twice...i asked someone before and they said it's because the ecu is hunting...is that true??

I drive an fc3s... I can do only 250kilometres++ with ron97, with ron95(which i mistakenly pakai) will only run for 200kilometres++, but I was again mistakenly pakai vpower racing which is ron99(i think so), It can do more than 300kilometres++! hehehehhee.. so for me the higher the octane is the lesser u tekan the minyak.. some more the engine is cooler than running with ron97...

Hassan, I don't know if the RON makes such a big difference to fuel consumption. Possible that the O2 sensors are a little worn and reporting incorrectly to ECU - so the ECU pump more fuel.

For the V-Power brand, the fuel contains additional additives and detergents not found in the premium unleaded of equivalent RON. Supposedly la, no one can really verify that.

In Malaysia, V-Power is RON97.
In Australia, V-Power Racing is RON100. Heard that this is phased out and only V-Power RON97 is avail.

In Hong Kong, V-Power is RON105 - the highest RON that I know about... which isnt saying much.

If you want a higher RON, you will need to use Ethanol or Methanol... should be RON133 for methanol

so there is no difference between 97 and v-power...just some cleaning additives supposedly right...

Well, the formula is different. Those cleaning additives sometimes makes a huge difference especially over the long term.

The marketing jargon says that V-Power was developed in collaboration with Ferrari in F1.

Use what feels right :) Sometimes that makes a lot of difference.
