Introduction
Weird name. Autochild.
Automotive Child? Automotive Boy? Whatever it is, Autochild is certainly no kid when it comes to automotive maintenance. Though they've only been established for just a couple of years, Autochild has established a proper hold in the market as the people you go to for professional automotive maintenance solutions. Do not confuse maintenance and repair - at least not in this article

Injectors goes through a sonic cleaning process

So, Maintenance. What's the big deal?
To differentiate themselves from thousands of service centres out there, The guys at Autochild do not focus on parts and repairs but automotive maintenance. Automotive maintenance in the Autochild dictionary means:
  • Preventing problems from even surfacing
  • Prolonging the car's performance
  • Bringing back the best the engine has to offer
  • Going where most service centres' never gone before
  • Only professional lubricants, fluids and chemicals are available
  • Automotive expertise in laymen's english

What's there in Autochild?

Lots. Go to Autochild, you'll see more Made-in-USA car products than you see in Ace Hardware. Okay, I wasn't serious. Well, at least they have premiums like Redline and Royal purple. Other products include stacks and stacks of American classic products. Some other interesting stuff includes shaved-door-handle kits, huge superchargers, oil filter magnets and etc.

They also have an extensive range of hardly-seen machines that exchanges fluids and oils, pedal depressing-less brake bleeder, refrigerant exchanger and some other machines and gadgets that would downgrade your impression on other workshops.
Services Offered
  • Fuel and Air induction service
  • Lubrication and Fuel Deposit Control service
  • Brake service
  • Cooling System service
  • Power Steering service
  • Battery and Wire service
  • Nitrogen air tyre service
  • Driveline service
  • Fuel Injection service
  • Climate control service
  • O3 Deodorizing service
  • Transmission service

So what have they done for me?
The works!.

Let's talk about the Engine first.

Chemical Decarb.
This process mean removing the carbon built-up in the combustion chamber, pistons, exhaust valves without disassembling the engine through special chemicals designed to break down carbon deposits. This involves inserting a tiny shaft into the air intake after the air filter. A pressurized tank feeds the shaft with chemicals which is pumped into the running engine.

DSC_0204.JPG

White smoke disappears as the engine goes through a decarb.
Frequent and sudden engine revving is required to help with this process. So does frequent refilling of the decarb tank. Thick white smoke from the exhaust slowly diminishes as the car undergoes this proving that it actually works. Don't believe? Get them to put an endoscope through! I'm not joking.

Engine Cleaning
What they do here is try to remove the parts they can for cleaning.

DSC_0291.JPG

Like the throttle body for example. Cans of Mag1 degreaser literally eats through the gunk and oil. Suddenly the top half of the engine is spotless. The bottom half? If you always thought it's supposed to be black, You're wrong. It's always been grey and silver-ish.
The Injectors were also cleaned through the regular sonic cleaning process and put on a bench test.

Oil and Fluid Change

Engine oil change is nothing. What's interesting is the clutch fluid, brake fluid and engine and transmission oil flushes!.
Special individual automated machines are adopted for jobs like these. Old-out, New-in. It's a simultaneous process which involves extracting the used fluids while pumping in new fluids. This ensures a thorough flush.

DSC_0099b.jpg

As the new goes in while the old goes out....

DSC_0099.JPG

...the whole system naturally comes clean.
The brake fluid system was also refreshed. This was also done simultaneously. Here's what's different. Brake bleeding. Multiple transparent pipes are mounted on the nipples, pressured fluid pumps through and air bubbles travel through it. You're not done till no bubbles are seen going down the pipes. No more 2-person brake bleeding anymore!

Engine Oil Flush.

Special chemicals are fed into the existing engine oil in the sump. The engine will be left running for about 10minutes. Engine off. The oil is then drained out replaced by new oil together with the same chemicals. This process is repeated till oil samples from each process clears up. Fortunately, cheap oils were used for this costly process.

DSC_0216.JPG

It takes several repeats to complete an engine oil flush.

So after all this, Do I feel anything?

It certainly look different physically, cleaner engine bay, free of gunk and oil spots. But the real deal? My 17 year old engine was great but had never been so smooth. It revs significantly better and idles better rhythmically. Moving off from a stop is less challenging now while keeping the rev on the limits has proved to be much more fun. The temperature gauge needle displays slightly cooler compared to before too.

Brendan. The guy behind. Passionate about automotive maintenance
The extensive process certainly is an eye-opener. Especially for aged cars. My vows have been answered. I've always only dream of stumbling upon passionate professionals that doesn't give you weird looks when you request for special processes such as these or not tell you your engine is going to be dirty anyway, there's no point keeping it clean actually.

DSC_0291.JPG

Degreasing is an important maintenance process

What else?

All these gadgets, special chemicals and oils does come with a cost though. These guys are very passionate about bringing out the best from your car, as such,
They may continue dumping in more products to produce the best results. Make sure you enquire, decide on the pricing and reveal your set budget before committing. They are specialized in maintenance work not engine repairs. You should only do your maintenance there. Avoid especially-special repairs or install requests. You have been advised.

These guys will test your car very very enthusiastically - If you're not comfortable, let them know first. Manual cars please beware. They may not be used to your car's shift pattern and clutch behavior. Caution burnt clutch possible

Even a coolant flush requires special attention. Purified water is used here.

wah u use purified water???better use it for drinking...dont waste money...hehe

Hmm.. cost.. this one depends. Motor oil flush is one charge, brake flush is another charge, decarb is one charge..

I like their service and I did it on my proton.. but I have to warn you guys about the money you are going to spend on the maintenance. Do what you need, not the whole package. Otherwise you might freak. :_:

peace all,

yeah cost is something to consider.. if you gonna keep your wheels then you may think like one way.. if your gonna dump your wheels then another approach may be right.. at Autochild.. we do it 1% at a time.. and we're not F'ing around.. if your compression is good then we can make your car better than new..but you gotta have the budget and the will.. we will also test your car.. if something is weak it'll break at our shop.. so you want to know the truth? you want the best? we're here.

Peace,
Autochild

nofear bro, if u really must know the price, best you call autochild up and ask for a quote. We can't reveal the amount here because our cars are different and the things we did are different and certain clubs have discounts and blah. So it wouldn't be accurate anyway. Wanna know? Call Brendan. He doesn't bite. Really.
