Hi guys,

Am a little new here.

I'm bringing in a 1973 Corvette into Malaysia which is pretty rusted out on the body panels and chassis.

1. I need to sand down the rust, re-weld , add a cross-member, sandblast, and spraycoat the chassis. Does anyone know who can do this?

2. I will also need to put on NEW drivetrain, suspension & coils, and brake systems to the chassis. It does not need to be the original GM parts, but can be aftermarket brands (e.g. brembo). Basically putting it togther again as a performance rolling chassis. Does anyone know who is good at this? Who is good at race-prepping?

3. I'm installing a 383ci 450hp carburrated Chevy engine and also need someone to help me put it together. Who?

Please advise guys.

Thanks.

whoa... not many workshop can do that... furthermore, it is a rare car....
re-weld and sandblast ur chassis might be available... but new drivetrain, suspension and so on need to be specially ordered...

ohya, car modifications in america is cheap.... but in malaysia, it will cost u a bomb...

if you wanna try Ricky out...he claims to be a specialist in restoring old cars...got my 1980 Nissan Fairlady 280zx from
him...workmanship not too bad...but, as always, could have been better.
Give him a call and see where that leads you.

Hope this helps.

Nice to hear bout an American classic coming to our shores!

question for eldiablo:

What are you paying for the road tax for this car? Do you get an exemption because of the age of the car?

Yup as its as old as me I will be applying for classic car status, and should be able to enjoy 80% exemption on regular road tax. Generally, anything more than 25 years is eligible for the exemption. But end of the day its still at JPJ's discetion.

So in other words,
we still have to "feed" them to approve it.

Anyway,
hope to see you post some photos of your ride when its done..

bro,
check out the jpj portal.
reads like classic/vintage car status is for original car only.
as for engine, if you really can't find a shop to do, some boat repairers might, cos Mercruiser is using GM blocks. same as urs i think.
btw, if you can bring in the car, why not get it done 1st? jes curious:)
and which vette is it? like the stingray?
jes me 2 sen

woahh...that car sounds like a classic =) well, actually to calculate the cost of labour here in Malaysia compared to other countries is either competitive or cheaper, cause as you know, blue collar jobs in other countries could earn just as much as a white collar jobs =)

true, but they have plenty of places to get parts, and expertise we don't. except if you wanna consider a 20year old saga a classic, or a soon to be classic;)

man.. i love corvette~~ all the versions.. from very old one until the C6,
cool
do u have photo?

anyway.. more than 25 years can apply as classic?
my car now 24 years old, next year will be 25th....
(registered at year 82)

haha.... holley carburettor.... yum yum... interesting project... i have seen a Shelby Cobra before under my house... hopefully i can see this Corvette...

will be posting pics of the resto on my blog.

..eventually.. :)

Bro,

Read in your blog that you have your car done at Glenmarie. Can share which shop and how much is the cost to do the bodyworks and paint?

moving the car around for a few different things. its no longer at glenmarie. its now in subang.

body & paint work is about rm10k.
