Latest News of the Proton Satria Neo S2000 from Pirelli International Rally - Carlisle, UK.
Wilkes Continues His Winning Ways
Current British Champion Guy Wilkes gave the new Proton Satria a promising debut as he led the Pirelli International Rally after the opening 2 stages in Kershope Forest despite losing his rear windscreen after a heavy landing on the opening stage.
Wilkes led the Subaru of Mark Higgins by just 18 seconds with Phillip Morrow (Mitsubishi) a further 10 seconds adrift in 3rd place. Higgins slowed when he heard a noise underneath the car which turned out to be the under shield coming loose.
The dusty conditions made life difficult for drivers on stage 1. Adam Gould clipped a couple of rocks, Kris Hall punctured 1 mile in and lost a pile of time. He inadvertently baulked the following cars of Craig Breen and Tom Walster. Daniel Siguardason paid a visit to a Kershope ditch, Kyle Orr reached the end of the stage with a puncture (F/OS) Peter Stephenson survived a full 360 spin, Euan Thorburn was another to pick up a puncture damaging a driveshaft in the process.
There were more dramas on Stage 2. Martin McCormack got away with a lurid spin, Barry Greer lost 3 minutes with a puncture, Molly Taylor’s Suzuki suffered a bent steering rack, Mark Gamble hit a rock and snapped the exhaust and Gordon Nichol’s Suzuki had an over steering problem.
The cars head back to Carlisle for an overnight halt before tomorrow’s marathon run over the Kielder stages.

Proton Proves It's Pace
Guy Wilks continued his impressive debut drive in the new Proton Satira, getting quickest times on the four morning Kielder stages, despite a momentary scare when the car’s throttle jammed.
Wilks headed for service with a handy 36 second lead ahead of Keith Cronin (Mitsubishi) who was locked in a tight tussle with Mark Higgins Subaru.
The first Kielder stages saw several major incidents notably the demise of Philip Morrow who went off on Stage 5 whilst lying third. Adam Gould also went off on this stage and David Bogie arrives at the finish line with his tyres shredded.
Stage 6 saw Jonathan Greer held onto 5th spot despite visiting one of Kielder’s many ditches, but Matti Rattanan, who has been a promising 8th slid his Renault Clio off permanently. A 90 right caught out Mark Donnelly, his Fiesta now sporting a bent axle, Barry Greer’s Fiesta needed new rear shockers, Luke Pindor was reported off the road and Kit Leigh’s lost a wheel approaching the finish line.
The crews are now at Carlisle Service before a return attack on the same four stages and another run through last nights opening in Kershope.
