PDA kaki

yep, the iphone is great. We are part of the iphone project and the apple designer has shown us the testing version of iphone, the touch screen is simply better than those pda one.. but the battery life span will be a concern.

US will launch at 29 jun but Asia version still yet to have an exact date....

i have asked the iphone team to get me a iphone from US when they are back on July.....haha hope they dont dissapointed me.....but one thing worth to mention is, the apple team for iphone are engineers from top tier universities such as MIT and UCLA....etc....

I'm also using O2 XDA EXEC for quite a long time....maybe civic rs need to change the battery for a new one....so far i'm very satisfied with the pda...very usefull....even i'm using it as a 3G modem on celcom 3G...superb connection n better than 512K streamyx....believe me as i'm very satisfied with it...

now i'm looking to upgrade to HSDPA PDA fone...maybe dopod 838 pro...as need a smaller pda fone...n also need more faster 3G...with XDA EXEC only can go for 370kbps....if using HSDPA can go above 1Mbps...anyone selling 838 pro?

Wanna let go my XDA EXEC...

cun!!! ....now scanning for dopod 838 pro....if anyone selling...can contact me...

afdzan, you can try getting the 'Softbank' version of the 838Pro from Japan. Its much cheaper there. Less than half the price you pay here. A couple of my friends got it from the yahoo auction site in frm Japan. The handset's price + shipping + firmware update won't cost you more than RM1500.

Here's an example of the link

VanGogh,

damn cheap but can be repaired in malaysia if got problem? i think i go for dopod 838 pro coz senang kalau jadi ape2....coz got service centre in low yat....anyway....TQ for ur info....if u know anyone selling 838 pro...just let me know....

Hi Afdzan,

The repair issue was one of the issues we discussed among my friends who bought it from Japan. I guess buying it frm overseas has its pros and cons. Pros being the price saving and cons being the support.

But from our discussions about the 838pro and the Softbank model, we also realised that it was also cheaper in Hong Kong and Taiwan. We are quite puzzled as to why its being sold at twice the price in Malaysia.

One of our speculation is that for every unit that it brought in, the price of another unit is factored in as well. So if a unit is faulty, they will give a replacement unit without question since the price of the 2nd unit is already factored into the initial price. But this is merely a hypothetical assumption as we are aware that some IT distributors are known to practise this.

Another speculation is the tax structure towards PDA phones like this. Maybe they are subjected to a form or Tax like those 'luxury taxes' subjected to iPods. Hence increasing the price of the original handset.

Anyway, back to the 838 Pro and the Softbank. Sometimes, the firmware of Softbank tend to be a version ahead frm the local 838 Pros. Hence you'll probably need to wait for the local firmware to catch up before you can flash the Softbank unit. And this may take a month or two, depending on the unit from Softbank. So far none of my friends have any problems with the Softbank/ 838Pros they got from Japan.

Come to think of it, I wonder how much are they being sold at the island down south. He he he.

Cheers.

Guys, HTC Touch lauched in Malaysia 2 days ago, nothing close to iPhone, but does provide some "iPhone"-like feature.
Emphasize on finger flipping, riding on new Microsoft OS. (but input is not as good as iPhone, still need to use stylus due to small onscreen keyboard)

RM2099 + 1 GB memory. Super slim (slimmest I ever see for PDA phone).
Kind of interesting.

Yeah, its looks quite good. Pretty cool in fact. :)

hello VanGogh,

hmm...it's true, coz even when i'm using this 02 xda exec (UK ver.)....the firmware n rom version is better than O2 selling here.....never crash like some of my frens using O2 atom and mini....

nowadays china really strong in duplicate ppl products. anyway, any new gadgets in the town? htc?

HTC had taken over Dopod.
HTC Touch is not even recommended by some sellers because since it's so new; it's not proven yet.
Memory is also much to be proud of so applications are bound to hang.

guys, im currently using a Dopod 818 pro, its more than a year old now...battery life is quite good on this one...heavy usage can last me 2 days, if seldom use, i think 4days also can...but if wifi or bluetooth on...battery sure finish very fast!

pros is that it has alot of the functions u need in a PDA phone. size small. Windows Mobile 5.

cons are such as small screen for surfing net, no keyboard, camera 2.0mp of blur images...wifi strength very weak...speaker not loud n clear.

Just my personal observations...but overall, im ok with it...for now. hehe

cheers

Hi guys,

Im using 838pro for almost a year now. But seems my vibrate mode is a bit crazy. At first bought its ok. Then after 3-4 month, it’s not functioning. Then last 2 months its ok again and then about a week ago it goes missing again. When I check with the shop, the ppl said it may be hardware problem. Hmmm.. I wonder hardware problem doesn’t go on and off right ? Software problem could be also. I’ve installed Windows Mobile 6 and still nothing. (original version is Mobile 5).. Any views?

Erm… Its only been 2 weeks and I’ve not yet explore much of the features. But so far its been stable. The device has not ‘hang’ yet. Hehe.. hopefully it stays that way..
However, when u install mobile 6, u need activesync version 4.5 to syncronise with yr PC. It’s not compatible with the original activesync version that was given upon purchase. So seems like can say bye bye to original CD.. haha.. activesync 4.5 can be downloaded thru
www.download.com for free. But obviously, the syncronising process is much slower that before. I wonder why too. Probably old Microsoft outlook but newer version activesyns.
