Hi people,

This forum is very helpful to me. I just bought a used 99 cefiro a32 2.0 ltr, and initially, I was getting terrrible mileage (5.5 kl/ltr). I brought it to the service center for a tune up and changed all the fluids as recommended, and the Nissan mech said that the car was ok after running a diagnostics test on it. I just refilled the tank and I'm waiting to see if my FC will improve. If it doesn't, what should I do to try to make the FC better? The car has only run 63k, and the previous owner didn't use the car often. Thanks for all your advice!

Welcome Cyborg, 5.5 km/ltr is about the stock consumption in traffic jam. Get another calculation after this tune-up and then we'll see what needs to be done. There are several things to do, and they have been covered in prevous posts. In brief :

a) Reduction of air intake resistance by means of a K & N filter insert or equivalent is prescribed.
b) The Y-Pipe is still IMO the best bang for buck
c) Clean out your IACV valve. Mine is stuck for the past 3 weeks and my consumption went up by about 35%

These are the simple things that you can do.

Hi Defcon,
Thanks for the quick reply. As of now, I'm averaging about 6 kl/ltr after the tuneup. I forgot to mention that the mech already removed the IACV valve and cleaned it out already. I already have a dropin sard filter waiting to be installed. I have a question regarding the idle with the aircon on. It's hovering about the 900 rpm mark, and when the aircon is off, it idles about 750 rpm, which I feel is about right. I know how to adjust the idle with the aircon off, but how do I adjust the idle when the aircon is on without affecting the idle when the aircon is off? Gasoline is very expensive in Thailand (about RM 2.5 per liter), and I would like to have the car perform at its maximum. I do most of my driving in the city (90%), with the remaining 10% driving to the suburbs. There is a cefiro club here in Thailand, but I'm not very proficient in writing Thai, so the forums are not able to help me. However, some of them are averaging about 6.5-7 kl/ltr. Performance wise, takeoff performance is sluggish, and kickdowns are very lazy, with the same acceleration to match. Will the y pipe help in this respect? Thanks for your help.

Hello Cyborg...

Thailand? Aaaaah...I should have said, "Sa wat di, krap"...

As far as I know, the AC idle is governed by the ECU via the IACV valve. Have you tried resetting the ECU yet? The easy way to do this is to disconnect your battery positive terminal and leave it off for about half an hour.

The Y-Pipe will definitely help on all points. The Cefiro has a nightmare exhaust system with 2 pre-cat converters, 1 cat converter (all these will, by now, probably no longer be working properly) and a centre exhaust which is probably locally made. Also, the angle of entry of the rear/second downpipe is at a 90 degree angle to the primary pipe making it a rather horrible design for the merging of two air streams. Reducing the resistance to escaping exhaust gasses, and improving the system design with a proper "Y" joint will increase the overall efficiency of the motor.

welcome cyborg...
thailand has lots of cefiro a31 n a32...pretty popular there...even turbo a32!!!

anyway, fc also govern by the way u drive ur car. lighter foot will certainly helps...:p
as deffy pointed, Y-pipe n decat will certainly help. its proven in US...

Buying A32

Hi Guys,
I m in midst of looking for a cefiro. Infact viewing a 99 model tomorrow.
Welcome any advice before going in search of a 3.0 V6.
Talking about FC, how bad would it be compared to a 1.8GSR Turbo.
Also can any one tell me what the widest tyre one can install if it's
18" wheels after taking into consideration offset etc.

Hope to join you guys once I have it

Thanks

cad...if u boost ur gsr, the fc will be around the same. bear in mind the difference in capacity also contibute to fc factor. of course, higher cc = more fc.

for a32 3.0, its around 0.20/km for highways, 0.25/km for mixed driving n can get 0.30 for aggressive driving..

as for 18" tyres, i am using 18"x8.5JJ+42 front with 225/45/18 n 18"x9.5JJ +45 with 265/35/18...no prob whatsoever...

i have tried few offset for the rear:
18"x8JJ +40 (225/45/18)
18"x8.5+36 (235/40/18)
18"x9.5+38 (235/40/18)

of course u can go lower with the offset (max=18"x9JJ +35) provided u use 235/40/18 tyres...anything bigger than that, u might have prob with the guard rubbing ur precious rubber. cheers
