NEW BMW 1.... WAH !!!!

Expect to see more and more 1 series on the road at the beginning of next year. I guess not many people to pay 318's price for the 1 series hatchback.

Why all this talk of the 1'er being a ladies car?? 'Cause it's a hatchback?? Do you folks call all the other VW, Honda hatchbacks ladies cars too? Strange.

The 1'er is a big step for BMW in the right direction....a sub 3000lbs RWD. Once the inline 6 models come available we will finally have BMW's more like the ones of old, instead of the overweight pigs they have produced since the early '90's (E36, E46). It is ludicrous how heavy the 3'er has become over the years. With that said, I think the 1'er should be lighter than it's current 2900lbs but hey under 3000lbs is much better than the E46 which weighs in at appx 3300lbs.

Let's also keep in mind, BMW doesn't design cars for SE Asian markets. They design cars for the European market & of course the US market. In those markets the 1'er is only slightly more expensive than the VW Golfs.

I just hope the 1'er will come out in a coupe version someday along with an M54B30 (3.0L) or newer engine with that type of capacity & power.

EDIT: Hey Bert, sounds like you are quite the FWD fanatic.....ever owned/driven RWD cars? I think you would find them much, much more fun ;)

well.. it is said the 120i is for the young family, and probably that is right if the young family lives in europe or the us as the car is quite cheap. as for the young families in m'sia, that is totally out of reach. but then what do u expect in m'sia? no cars would be cheaper than perodua's or proton's (although proton's prices are getting tough competition by korean makes).

juz my point of view, to me it does look like a ladies car. even the honda ep h/b civics, vw golf and even the sedan vios! ahaks.. no offence lar.. it's juz me. it's no biggie if a guy drives them, as long as they're happy wif the car they're driving.

i'm not sure about the coupe version of the 1-series though.. but it is a fact that the M version will comeout sometime next year. so probably they'll put in the 3.2/3.0L version of the M3 engine.. now that's the car that i want.. even if it looks girlish!!! :D

RM223K is CBU price, if got demand, maybe there will be a CKD price which lower a bit.

Chris.. the cars I quoted are the direct competitors to the 1-series. That is the target amrket that BMW is aiming against in Europe and the rest of the world... just so happends they are on FWD.. I would prefer to get myself a nice Silvia and go drifting.. hehehe
