JOHOR BARU: A family outing ended in tragedy when a mother and daughter were killed on the spot following a collision between a trailer and the vehicle they were in.

Eleven-year-old Lian Poh Yi was flung out of the vehicle in the head-on collision while her mother, Chai Kin Lian, 31, was trapped in the wreckage.

Chai’s husband, Lian Leong Hoo, 41, was seriously injured in the 1.10pm incident at the 47th kilometre of Jalan Johor Baru-Air Itam near Sedenak here yesterday.

The trailer had dragged their MPV for some 35m before coming to a halt.
Lian has been warded at the Kulai Hospital’s intensive care unit.
The couple’s two other children Jian Seng, eight, and Poh Hai, six, suffered minor injuries.
Johor Baru (North) traffic chief Asst Supt Bakri Zainal Abidin said the 38-year-old trailer driver had been detained.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist died after being hit by a bus near the Larkin bus station here.

Mohd Firdaus Hakim Mohd Farik, 18, was coming out of a junction at 9.30am yesterday when he collided with the bus.

He was rushed to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital but died shortly after.
Johor Baru (South) traffic chief Deputy Supt Ooi Kok Siong, who said the bus driver had been questioned, urged witnesses to the accident to contact the police at 07-2212999.

In Kahang, Kluang, two men died on the spot when their car hit a tree along the 84th kilometre of Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing.

The victims, Er Kok Poh, 38, and his father Er Tian Hua, 63, were on their way home to Muar from Kahang when the accident occurred at about 5.45am yesterday.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Fauzi Arshad said the two died on the spot from head injuries.
This is not the first time I emphasize this,
Please ask your rear passenger buckle up their seat belt,
the rear seat belt is not meant for display.

Condolences,

In Singapore rear passenger belt is compulsory, but in Malaysia its optional. Wat u want? Life or optional?

You have loads of girl friends, dude. You drank too much pepsi la, always asking for more. haha

Yes .. agree with satria_95, sometimes i don't wear seatbelt in rainy days cause cops wont be around. I wear to avoid summon. I also wear if i exceed 100kmh when driving. Just for safety purpose.

I saw the news on TV3 the same day the showed. Pity .. safety comes first.

I also read from paper... lorry must b going so fast that it drag the car for 35M...

BS.. that was old pic from years ago in Ogrish .. i think they forwarded fake make.

The pic u posted is in Malaysia where road crossed at highway got hit by speeding Camry .. :)

Not wearing the rear seatbelts can still be forgiven cause we are not used to it here in Malaysia but not wearing front seatbelts is JUST PLAIN STUPID!

Don't think the windshield is going to stop you from being hurled out of the vehicle when your car goes from 100 - 0 in half a second.

Oh okei. You're unsure how it happened. I asked because I was curious about how you came to your statement that the "driver cum father/husband" would have a stupid face, without any solid evidence to back your claims. Well, that's considering the fact that you mentioned "father/husband" and that it felt like you were blaming that dude for wreckless driving instead of the truck/lorry/etc. driver. I would certainly believe that how sad that "stupid faced driver cum father/husband" will feel about this accident. No worries. You needn't justify it to me. I'm just curious, that's all.

Usually, I would always suspect the truck/lorry drivers who are the ones that are wrong because 8 out of 10 really large vehicles like trucks, lorries, busses, etc. that are on the road are wreckless and seriously inconsiderate drivers. They just swerve in and out and drive over their speed limits. I've experienced a few times when I was driving at 100kmh on express ways in the middle lane, over taking cars on the left lane, and there will be express busses or trucks who will high beam me to move over. As far as I know, their max speed limit is only 90kmh. What are they trying to do by driving faster than 100kmh? Exactly what the govt is doing to the citizens. Slowly and surely killing people.

noted, thanks for the clarification. Years ago, no wonder, I was in stone age back then.

frankly, no information about how the incident happen (at least I didn't read it so far), don't know why suddenly some start blame the MPV driver.
