Hello fellow friends out there...just want to ask u all and to know a lot more

about lightened flywheel...is it good to skim the factory ones????? What is the

pros and cons to do this...My car is honda civic SR4 (local) SingleCam 1.6l non-

vtec...Your help are kindly appreciate...Tq.....

A lightened flywheel will give you better response. Revs will climb faster. Thus better performance, in my opinion.

There are 2 types of lighten flywheel.

  1. Skimmed original flywheel to shave off some weight
  2. Proper aftermarket lighten flywheel
I heard the skimmed type is dangerous as it weakens the structural integrity of the original flywheel.

Why , when putting lighten flywheel on the car , the car will suffer from hillclimb ? Assuming that it's originall lighten flywheel . not skimmed ones.

Revs climb faster, it also drops faster. Read on inertia.

aftermarket flywheels comes in different weights, so use best applications for purposes (ie drag, hill climbs etc)

I suffer non from hill climbs with TRD flywheel (less 2/3 of stock) of but my guess too light ones (1/3 of weight) may be difficult for some to stay in redline for hills as driving isnt constant as oppose to maybe drag.

danger of skimmed ones well, it is off course the cheapest way but an imbalanced flywheel after skimming .... imagine a chew gum on a spinning coin.
