Thanks, BTW, to those who have PM'd me regarding the mag swaps. I really appriciate it
I'm always on the look-out for interesting stuff...from around the world!

hey tincap

i'm a malaysian in canada. in winnipeg actually. schooling in the u of manitoba. you were saying something about anything over 15 years old can be imported in without tax or something? do let me know more!

i'm actually interested to get hold of a ST185 or ST165. you know the celica alltrac awd turbo... *slurps*. especially if it is a right hand drive so i can bring it to malaysia after my studies.

how about insurance? i heard it is filthy expensive. something like cdn$2k+ for a 10 years old car or something...

anything you can tell me... i'll be hella grateful. thanks!

Tincap,

hallo there. i have a collection of car mags both from local and abroad. there are some local publications that maybe worth while looking at such as hypertune and traffic. maybe we could trade. i don't have anything from canada. whats the deal like??

over here, the mod scene is mostly dominated by proton/mistsu. they share the same platform and with the existance of tons of mitsu halfcuts here, makes engines/parts (mostly mivec, gsr, vr4, evo) easily available. hondas follow suit closely. they are envied coz, as you know, they can smoke turbos, even in NA form. then theres the toyotas, nissans, mazdas, subarus that is not so dominant by still respected and make the scene more happening. and most of it here follow the JDM theme, for quite a long time already actually. most parts of the world are realizing now, it the way to go....

drag and drifting is spreading like wildfire with many events being organised. its all about getting'em off the streets now. then theres the ocasional track days we have in Sepang. its not as much as when compared to japan, uk or the states, but we get by and have fun doing it....

For Canadians, the car has to be 15 years old. However, as you're Malaysian and if you are in Canada studying on a student visa, you may be able to bring in anything you wish...as long as you take it out of Canada with you (you can not sell it, or 'leave' it here). Ask someone at Transport Canada or Canada Customs about that.
As for insurance, yes, it can be pricey. Especially for sporty vehicles and if you haven't been covered for a very long time (I have nearly 25 years of driving experience, so not too bad for me).
There are companies on the west coast which specialize in the importing of JDM vehicles. As I am not a business, it would be risky for me to have something sent to Winnipeg. Too bad you weren't studying here, in Halifax, I'd be able to bring one in for you!

Hey Minivan,

Basically one for one is fine, they don't have to be 'collectable' or anything, just stuff that I wouldn't normally see around here. I've sent some (American import tuner mags) out already and hoping for some Malaysian publications in return.
Our market is dominated by American mags, but we do have a couple of Canadians (mainly general interest...although a tuner mag may be out), as well as, some British, French and the odd Aussie publication. Besides the Malaysian publications, are there other regional magazines (Singapore, Indonesia, Thai...???) readily available at your newsstands?
I'll trade a couple of Canadian publications for anything cool from your part of the world
PM me if you like!

Cheers!

Hey, Jebu, then you know what the 'I am Canadian' line refers to, eh? (A certain little resfreshment company named Molson... )

$100...? Not surprised! And we hear that Malaysia is a strict society! I'm originally from Ottawa, where if you ride a bike on the side walk it's over $100 fine. However, here in Halifax...whatever! Clunk!

Cheers!

It's been a long held view, here in 'the west' that Malaysia is a strict society, with restrictions being put in place on anything that is deemed 'counter-culture' (a rather broad definition).
Perhaps, this is not the best forum to discuss this matter...however, having said that, Malaysia also is looked upon as a role model society, with a stabile government and well thought out economic policies.

welcome,welcome...sawadikap.. ha ha ha...take one chair and 'lepak' with all of us :D

Howdy all!
Just wanted to say props to aLeXz for swapping several mags. I hope my copies to him have arrived (sent via airmail)...:slug:

I currently now have copies of Traffic, Hypertune, Extreme & Evolusi Otomobil. They all look pretty slick! You guys are definitely rocking the Protons (which we don't get...however we did get most of their related Mitsubishi cousins).

I believe I also have a copy of Carma on the way (there is a magazine writer amongst your midst  ) and am looking forward to that.

Evolusi is fun (not that I can read it!), you guys catch the sweet Cefiro, (from page 24) with the 'Zerotohundred' banner? Nice!
I'd like to get a Cefiro into Canada...perhaps in the near future. First I'll see how my Fairlady Z Twin Turbo works out

Take it easy out there!

Cheers!
