How to check ECU

Hello dude,
I just wonder how to check my car ECU is in good condition?
I jsut buy 2st hand satria 1.6, coz my ride is not smooth but there is not engine light show up?
any others ways to check the ECU

THere is a self diagnostic socket below the dashboard on the driver side.

Most Proton/EON Service center are able tap into the socket and read the flash codes

Which means i can take it back to EON or proton service center.
If there is no engine light show up, will the ECU still be problem,
or only when the engine light is shop up means the ECU got problem or error in code?

any workshop which have MUT device can read ur codes.
check ur engine..maybe that causes the un-smooth ride... [:)]
