Some people say it's a no-no since moisture will trapped between the nylon sheet and car body and will lead to rust.. anybody can clarify this?

My girlfriend used to cover her car with those typical nylon sheet. After a few months, we discovered some stains on the car surface, especially over the car hood and roof (the most heated area). It looks like those surface was corroded with faded spots. Again, his father commented that was caused by some kind of chemical reaction due to the trapped moisture between the nylon cover and the paint surface. I think those nylon cover is only suitable for shielding the car from dust and rain, not against the scorching sun.

There is no escape from the sun, so why avoiding it?

Juz my opinion,

When is your car next repainting session? In 1 year? 2 years? If you can afford it, try tell the foreman to spray a few more layer of paint and more layers too of those clear paint on your car... By doing this may prevent your car rusting easily and paint from loosing their colour by the scortching of the sun, you can even polish your car many times. This also help protect your car from flying debris like pebbles and also vandalism such as scratching because the protective clear layer is too thick to be scratched(tested). Optionally, you can also try put those 3M Clear-film Paint Protector, it applies directly on top of the paint by sticking a stronger-than-plastic film, similar to tinting. My car always park under the sun for consecutive 8 hours across noon time daily, my last repaint is about 5 years ago and it's still doing fine except for the spot I banged a tiang... >.<

paper cardboard best.. can get them for free at some convenient store or even supermarket..

its paper, it suck moisture. its thick, and hold air pockets inside, which basically is a heat repelant already..

only problem is that its bulky and hard to bring them around if you plan to use it outside..

Options:

1) cheapo nylon car cover

Pros: cheap

Cons: easily tear/broken, cant last long, do melt abit if very hot, once stick on car paint, cant get off :< once kena droppings, very cumbersome.

2) paper box / big piece of thick cloth

Pros: cheap /FOC, wont melt, hot air can escape / got air flow

Cons: cant withstand rain water, paper box cant cover all section too, once cloth kena droppings, very cumbersome.

3) Under tree

Pros: FOC, can be quite cooling too...........& wont melt too :>

Cons: can't find trees, if found one: possible FOC bird droppings + FOC tree leafs & stems, possible loose broken tree trunks fall down when rain.....which also FOC......

4) Damn Big Umbrella/Gazebo

Pros: ..........may cover up 100% of ur car? against rain/sun/droppings....

Cons: very expensive, maynot cover 100% of ur car, may fall down & hit ur precious car if got storm/heavy rain/wind, if got d $$, do awning extention lar.....

5) Carrefour 4 legs Plastic Tent

Pros: cheap...like rm50+, can cover a sedan liao :> wont melt on ur car, against sun/rain/droppings/leafs etc, act as deco:as if ur house got happening events :) Alot of car show room use them. Once properly installed, no hussle anymore....... can be remove as well........If got lubang occur, can simply typed it...

Cons: cant last for ages (what d heck, can buy one mar, anytime also got stock, strong wind may blow it away even u put bricks on d 4 legs (so use heavy flower pot instead!!)

So Bro, which one u choose? ....hehe..

i have a suggestion...as my car's always parked under the sun, i spent extra and bought a car cover for around RM130...i bought it from hatyai but you can find it also in eunos 1u...it's water proof and most importantly, it won't melt under the sun...do not buy those ciplak RM20 covers as they will melt and not waterproof as well...it's metallic up front and it really works as my car is not really hot inside after a few hours in the sun...the only con is i need to put/take out and when it rains a bit susah as water from the canvas will drip once taking it out

car cover can scratch your paint.

especially when putting on and getting off. you have to make sure your car's paint is clean b4 u put on the cover.
