Honda is catching fast..

I think the figure is expected already since buyers are more aware of things. Although Toyota might have a reliable engine, the overall package of the car maybe not enough to get attention of the buyers. Besides, I don't remember any sports car from Toyota being ever sold in Malaysia. Like Honda and Mitsubishi, they have their TypeR and Evo for sale in Malaysia, heck even Mazda is selling the 2009 RX8 in Malaysia.
Besides, the "dugong TRD" is a joke and I don't understand why anyone would fork out RM90k to buy it. I think TRD should be ashamed of themselves for that.
Don't look too far, just look at the type of cars that Thai consumers get to buy from their homeland. Their version of "TRD" GT Vios is way better and their also Altis comes with a Dual VVTi motor.
Perhaps that's why most of use choose other brands or stick with older Toyota which provides way better satisfaction, performance and value for money.

..and thailand consumers also get the '2.0L' dual vvti in their Altis too..

I think for the last 2 years i have been beeching about how UMW sells cars here. The very very bad thing about them is banking on their "experience", "reputation", yada yada yada. But in fact that kind of thing cannot be used anymore. In fact its a disease inflicted by Toyota themselves. Being a number 1 vehicle manufacturer worldwide, few books about how they have conquered manufacturing and selling. In the end no one seen the ultimate "padan muka" scheme of things from their folly. When their foray into F1 i was ok with that. But at the cost of all the sports cars they sell, Celica, MRS and Supra. All taken off. The Corolla is schemed to be updated in the Altis as an affordable 3 series of their range. In other markets you get Sports Corolla and even the Vitz or Yaris that we have here. But frankly, all these cars are killing their own small car markets. The make a lot of family wagons. But they are not being sold by UMW. Remember the disease i talk about earlier about Toyota? UMW don't sell Wish or Alphard. There are markets for these cars. But you have to get them from Naza and such. Well UMW is so confident enough that they can sell only Vios, Corolla & Camry. Gentlemens agreement between sellers?

But really can't blame UMW, as selling Toyota isn't their primary business. They have construction, oil and chemical industries that works more moolah for them than cars.

Hondas sells well simply because they are attractive. I mean who cares about how reliable the car is with the spending power people have nowdays? Everyone is eyeing a Peugeot 308 just because it has turbo even though the car is not reliable from Peugeot's old history. People buy Honda because it looks nice and the package is more better than Toyotas any day. Who was the first locally to give out 100KM or 3 years warranty? It wasn't Toyota the last i heard. KE70 was selling by the bucketloads simply because the car was a respected workhorse platform carried from the KE30 series. If "mekanik bawah pokok" can't fix them cheap, you don't buy them. then there was the SEG. That was the deal sealer for Toyota. The biggest selling model in history. Need not look far why it sold by truckloads. 4Axx engines was superior since the famous LE we had back then. My neighbour had an Unser and a AE111 SEG that was banged here and there from their pasar malam exploits. Yet they spend their latest workhorse on a 1.8 Civic. And the Civic is also banged up here and there. Yet it still works.

Hell i support Toyota. I drive my battle tank toyota everyday. But simply all the funds being used for F1 and make an LFA is not justified. Now they want to make a FT86 to relive back the good old times. Oh yeah lest Toyota forget, the best times was an AE86, a KE70/ AE101 corollas and even the ST series Celicas. Which happens to be the best times toyota makes a lot of money. The books written are good as tombstones for their follies. Now they are somewhat broke. No money for F1, overcharging for an LFA, and rumours that one can't even own it like a Ferrari XX series race development car.

Sorry Toyota i'm still not convinced of your marketing scheme. Your manufacturing is great though. Till you relive your old ways, i'll be back. I won't screw you up and down, but merely beechslap you once in a while. While be happy here the people are still championing your legacy.

i read this thread with much interest! considering that here in SG, toyota is fighting with....KIA..!!! for control of the top spots! evidently the koreans have done something right in the design dept...EVEN the Koreans!!!..who not too long ago made lame cars like the Daewoo (*faint*) are making beautiful cars like the new Cerato Forte.. so yeah..toyota needs to really work something... honda seems to have a firm hold on the hatch dept with the Jazz and the PI version FIT.... i'm kinda still optimistic that something will come out SOON.. looking at the fortunes of other marques in the last decade like Volvo, and even Jag..who have evolved into sexy looking desirable cars.. of course its in a diff market segment... bloody hell bring back the sports cars Toyota!!!.. whatever the hell happened to the Supra/Celica GT4's etc..?

Vios is about 90k, Toyota Spacio new recon now is about 98k.
Altis is about 100k, Caldina 2.0 new recon now is about 105k only..
So which one will you go for? Recon car or UMW?

few of female frens just changed to city recently. i asked them why honda? they just told me city got vtec and looks very stylish ma. vios looks like ah pek's car. even my sister in law also told me recent toyota cars look very outdated. conclusion, girls also know vtec for honda, but toyota got wat? they said duno wo. nowadays not only guys know how to choose a car, but girls are pretty knowledgable and demanding as well.

nowadays those youngers only know VTEC, TEC here TEC there, very funny!

like chinese have to buy a "shan toi" to pray the "god of vtec"

yup..i agree!! koreans are copycats!!.. but the products are beginning to look nicer!..and here, because cars are so F*****g expensive, buying a KIA means u got an extra SGD$10k leftover (or $10k less in loan repayments!!!) hence their appeal... of course most ppl here still defer to hondas, for design and engine reliablility, and of course reputation... maybe thats why the koreans are copying them!!...(just like the japs used to copy the europeans?..:)...)

Korean "WERE" copycats. They aren't now. The new copycats are China. In fact they are worse off than Korea as some of the cars are exact clone since the QQ days.

So the new Forte is called a copy cat? Damn if having some elements from other makes is called a copy cat. I think SXE10 Altezza's lamps must be the king of the hill then since everyone uses colored inner house on transparent cover. hahahaha Also every crystal headlamp must have been from Nissan and every LED influenced lamps from AUDI. No need to guess which is which. Even aftermarket parts maker copies one another. If you want original drive cars that are lower than 1980s'. There isn't anything more original than that. Even my old car is a copy of Ford Mustang and Chevy Vega. There goes the neighbourhood!:wavey:

But nowdays its packaging la. More bang for the buck. 100K or 3 years warranty is almost the norm now. Service packages, and the most important, car looks. If Hyundai's i10 has a crappy engine, the looks make up for it. So a Honda Civic and a Altis? C'mon.... spending RM100K on a rehash vs a newly redesigned car. No brainer here.
