The country's first programme that caters for female motorists has just been launched by Goodyear, who together with the Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM), will be offering the free community service programme, called 'Women with Drive,' in the hopes of better educating female motorists.
Set to be conducted by Goodyear Autocare experts, the programme aims to enlighten female road users on vehicle maintenance, road safety and to give them the confidence as well as knowledge of basic auto care to help them make better-informed decisions on their motoring lifestyles.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for women to build their confidence and become savvier on the road. Women play a very important role in decision-making both at work and at home. Therefore, it is essential for them to understand the mechanics of their vehicles and choose what is best for them based on their different needs to avoid being cheated if unfamiliar. This is the first time we are running this programme in Malaysia and we urge all female motorists to hop on the bandwagon as it will be a fun, educational and informative experience,” said Ivy Peng, Goodyear Sales Director.
“On behalf of AAM, we are proud to be affiliated with Goodyear and the first ever 'Women with Drive' programme in Malaysia. We believe that this programme will be a great hit, providing Malaysian women with an accessible channel to better understand their vehicles while keeping themselves, and their families safe,” said Melinda Ngiew, Chief Executive Officer of AAM.

Being targeted at women, one of the best methods to get the message across is with the support of female celebrities and the few present at the launch had high hopes for the programme to achieve its target. Television host and actress Sarimah Ibrahim, emcee and model Bernie Chan, television host and writer Xandria Ooi, young handbag designer Sasha Rowena and Team Goodyear’s very own female drifter, Azrina Jane Abdullah, were at the launch to throw their support behind the initiative.
“It is great to see Goodyear coming up with a campaign that is aimed at empowering women. Women are indeed becoming car owners at an increasing rate and the programme will certainly be beneficial to them, especially in terms of becoming savvier on the road,” said Sarimah.
Currently, the programme is already underway in neighbouring countries such as Australia, China, Indonesia, India and the Philippines. Each country kicked off the programme with different activities such as an informative booklet for China, a talk show in Indonesia and general workshops for Australia and India.
For the local programme, a series of articles focusing on car and road safety will get things going before a 'Survival Training' programme kicks off in May. The 'Survival Training' will be held every three months and aims to share tips, precautions, delve into auto care myths and teach defensive driving styles. It will be a very much 'hands-on' affair with lessons on how to check the car's basic safety systems and vehicle maintenance such as engine, fluids, electrics, belts and of course tyres.
The workshops are open to the public. For more information, drop by Goodyear Malaysia.
