Ive had the vibe and a few messages now basically proving most people in MY do not have garages for their car(s).

What IF I wanted one? Ideal situation would be attached garage at place of residence but with the majority of the population in apartments, perhaps shop/storage rental is the way to go?

I didnt get around to EVERY house, but the ones I saw had, at best, a carport that was situated where one walks past the car to get in the house. NOT a good setup for opening the doors to do a stereo install... or leaving a job half done for a few days waiting for some new turbo install etc.

I just dont see myself paying for EVERYTHING to be done. Some things are just FUN to do yourself. Brings me to:

Tools. I have a med/large tool collection with a rollaway box. NOT going to even try to ship that to MY. for the DIY types, are hand tools affordable? I mean more than the small kit that comes in the trunk, er "boot" of some cars. I mean actual wrench sets and the like. I can buy a small to large floorjack at several stores here in a town of less than 20k people! What if I wanted a small welder to make my own custom piping for _________? Hope you get the idea.

Full circle now. Security. If you dont have a garage, or space rented, it seems to me the nice wheels you just put on might come up missing. What if you actually have a small collection of tools... nothing too big, just big enough to not want to lug it through the house every time its needed, but dont want the tools stolen? Seems one would want the tools kept near where the car is parked.

MY is so different lah!

I almost need pictures! Searching the forums for "storage" "garage" and "shop" turned up threads with way to many replies to read through.

Do you guys store your tools in the kitchen?

I think this car_guy_lifestyle will drive me batty. I pay for things like window tint, or wheel alignments but if my radiator gets a hole in it, I can swap it out waaay faster than driving/towing to a shop. Doing said radiator swap by the front door is a nogo though.

Of course this assumes that there are even parts stores where a radiator could be purchased. Is this wholesale parts area? Meaning can average Joe go buy parts for his Waja?

Frustrated and confused,

Let me be clear: Not a rich guy. Not living "expat" lifestyle working for some International corp. I just know what I want/like and I am willing to at least try to achieve those things.

I dont HAVE to have a garage at the house, heck, I may not even have a house at all for a while. All options being explored. Might even come to prefer an apartment (parking garage makes cool exhaust echo).

Thanks for reading.

malaysian dont really own a workshop or garage for interest... people open a garage to repair cars and do business... yes, malaysian are not really keen getting all dirty and all out to fix their own car... first, most of us dont have that knowledge to do... 2nd, we are lack of tools... so, whenever our car break down, we jz send to workshops to repair them... of course, there are a few who actually owns/has a small garage or workshop for their own... but in usual case, if we want to fix our own car, we usually go to a friend's workshop and use their tools and expertise....

Yep you can buy parts form spareparts wholesalers. No problem. Most little town have one. As for tools i got contacts if you want to buy high quality tools. As for tool storage, most malaysians dont have a huge rolling toolchest. so those who have handtools stuff them into heavy duty briefcases and tuck it away in the storeoom.
