Watch out for Honda's all-new 8th generation Civic early next year.

Touted to be the best of the best from Honda's stable of cars, the new 1.8-litre mid-sized sedan will roll off the production lines across the region with variants precisely tailored to customers' needs.

Honda Motor Co Ltd senior managing director and chief operating officer (Asia-Oceania Region) Satoshi Toshida said he was confident the new Civic would quickly establish itself as the new global benchmark for 1.8-litre sedans in the same manner as previous generations of the Civic.

“The new model features substantive improvements in all the key measures of an automobile's value, including a sportier driving performance, combined with improved fuel economy, strengthened environmental friendliness and enhanced packaging.

“The newly-developed 1.8-litre i-VTEC engine, and the world-leading fuel economy of the new Civic Hybrid with its new 3-stage i-VTEC and IMA Honda Hybrid System, is very much in tune with the times, given the historically high price of fuel,” he said to journalists before a special test drive of the new Civic yesterday.

He said the new Civic would meet EURO 4 emission standards levels, which were introduced in the European Union last year.

“By the end of next year, we will have started local production of the new Civic in China, India and Vietnam while Honda Taiwan Co Ltd will also commence production of the Civic.

“This will compliment our 11 locations around the world, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand and Japan in Asia,” he added.

The all-new Civic will feature a selection of body types, including the four-door sedan, the two-door coupe, and the three- and five-door hatchbacks, with each model having its own power-train.
