BMW confirms Petronas cash

Man, the BMW buyout would have been the perfect opportunity of Petronas to leave F1 gracefully, instead they're gonna continues to waste advertising dollers, its not like BMW need the money. Even worse now that its likely there won't be anymore technology transfers since its gonna be an all German/Swiss team from now on.

Well at least there won't be any more Sauber/Petronas engineers doing advertisements on local TV next season. :D

It is no big surprise but Petronas, the Malaysian national oil company, has agreed to remain as the principal sponsor of the BMW Sauber team until 2009. In the past the company has been the title sponsor and has also owned the naming rights of the Ferrari V10 engine.

The team, which has yet to decide on its second and third drivers, will be launched in Valencia in Spain on January 16 and 17.

ask any marketing guru.... anyone who is anybody wants to be part of formula 1. Its the most watched sport in the world, attracting millions around the world for each and every race. Being in F1 means companies enjoy all the marketing and advertising benefits the sport has to offer.

Since 1995, Petronas's association with Formula One has given the opportunity for relevant technology acquisition and capability development as well as boosted Petronas products' R&D capability, especially in the areas of fuel and lubricants.

Yeah, from now on, most of the involvement would be for advertising and marketing (part of the continuos effort to globally brand the Petronas name), but in the deal that was signed, Petronas will also have the opportunity to utilise BMW's motorsports expertise to help nurture and develop young Malaysian drivers.

nway, all in all, i beg to differ from your point of view that Petronas should be gracefully pulling out of F1...

yup i dont see a point of petronas pulling out from f1 too.. imagine if somehow BMW agrees to use petronas as their official lubricant not only in racing but in all passenger and comercial vehicles, it would be a great jump in revenue and share prices will strenghten..
