While Formula One and the American motorsports public generally never met eye to eye, due mostly to the lack of overtaking that they’re accustomed to in NASCAR, that’s all about to change with the new Formula One track to be laid out in Austin, Texas. And from a quick glance, it’s definitely whetting the appetite.

The race promoter, Tavo Hellmund, has lifted the layout of the 5.47km track that packs some insane high speed sections to promote overtaking and lengthen the notoriously short attention span of the American public.

It consists of a total of 20 turns and 40.5meters in elevation changes including a 1.2km long back straight that will see the cars touch speeds of 322km/h and zip by the grand stands at 290km/h.

Although the circuit is made up of plenty of high speed sections, the bits between them include some tight 45-degree turns that will undoubtedly make for some serious overtaking opportunities.

The best bit is that the circuit pays homage to other tracks by borrowing heavily from their layouts. An example would be Turns 3-6 that are similar to a series of apexes at Silverstone while Turns 12-15 tip their hat at Hockenheim. Even the Istanbul circuit has its image mimicked through Turns 16-18 that are a multi-apex set of turns.

Construction is slated to get underway this December as the course has been scheduled to host its debut race by 2012.

hahah America slow la. Now only wanna make F1 track :p

actually the United States already hosted their own F1 gp at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The only thing is the last grand prix was held way back in 2007 after lack of sponsorship and unable to meet Bernie Ecclestone's demand fails to secure them a place in the F1 calender in the following years.

too much more elevation change was never been wrong...

minimum elevation change was bored me to death....

*see mazda speedway laguna seca.....really not for the fainthearted...

too much straight passes.. typical american track.
but gotta agree with bro pomenGTR, laguna seca one of the best - the cock screw.

this is not just a straight track. It comes with super elevation which we might have a chance to see a flying F1 car. hahaaa...
