It's time to let it go......

FD3S RX-7 is already a classic isn't it? The second generation FC3S doesn't seem to hold much value though.

As for this first gen SA22C, I'm not sure is it a legend or not. :hmmmm:

Then now, are you keeping your RX-8?

Yes, the RX-7s are classic and icon now. I don't think RX-8 will be collectible. Mainly because of the engine performance. 238hp is just way too less even in it's era.

been driving the RX-8 frequently after I sold the Airtrek last week. I drove it rather agressively and this thing is actually pretty fast. May consider keeping it just in case I want a proper car to drive.

Nowadays car prices will drop one. New cars coming out cheaper, that is why my cars all did not sell because well maintain, still can use, no value if sell, so might as well keep......lol:biggrin:

VR with me for 16 years now, Hyundai already 13 years, even my Chery is 6 years already. Anyway all my cars Chinese called "lang moon" one, no value :bawling:.....hhahahhaha:biggrin:

Well I know any new cars once used will not have value. It's the matter of how much depreciation. I remembered my BIL using a Kia Optima and after 5 years, the value dropped almost 80% for trade in. If drop also not so 'seong' la... so that's what I meant about resale value.

Korean cars pretty bad loh, Only Jap H, T holds resale value. Lately heard N also not that good.....

That is why I din't thought of selling away my Wira despite being 17 years old now. Won't fetch much value. Some asked me if I thought of changing cars. I told them no because I don't really like paying for installments monthly. Might as well save up the money to fix up Wira and save some extras for a weekend car.

Perhaps after a certain age, RX-8 might have its own value. Look at those older RX-2 or RX-3, I think they have their own charm as well. I've seen before 2 RX-3 in Ipoh, the rotary idling sound is very unique.

After owning the RX-8 for long, I want to ask if there are any specific problems or things to take note of regarding the rotary engine? I heard about things like rotaries need a rebuild after a certain mileage, is that true? I've talked to a FC3S owner before and asked him about this, he told me there is no such thing and he din't bother about rebuilding.

A picture of one of the RX-3 that I saw.

H and T, yes but N, I still doubt. X-Trail is in my list of choices too but when I compared a 2013 Xtrail to 2013 CRV, the difference is huge. Used price starts from 70-75K for Xtrail vs. 95-120K for CRV. So that's a minimum 20K gap. When new, they are similar price at 140K zones.

I've owned the RX-8 for 4 years now. The engine is kept as stock and for normal use, it's reliable like any other cars if proper maintenance and replaceable parts are changed.

I only upgraded the cooling system. Thicker aluminium radiator, silicon radiator pipes and remapped ECU to kick in the fan sooner. In stock the fan starts only 95c for low fan speed and 100c for high speed. That is way too late for our hot climate.

Now it's 85c and 93c. I also added a water temp meter for monitor.

It's important to keep the rotary engine cool cos it's prone to fail under heat. I had only drove 17K in the past 4 years, so I am personally not sure about engine rebuild at 100K. I've seen quite a few passing the 100K without a problem. Highest so far is 180K still no rebuild. So using proper lubes + care does make a difference.

From the looks of it, maintenance for RX-8 is not so bad after all provided that the main engine parts remained stock. RX-8 sounds like a tempting car to get in future considering their price had dropped quite low. Previously, their price is around the same with 350Z, now it is even lower than 350Z... The killing factor in 350Z would be the roadtax...

I agree with you that the cooling system in RX-8 needs to be taken care of as the 13B-REW is a high revving engine which also means more heat.

17k in 4 years is indeed very low for mileage. That is like lower than 5k per year. So, most of the time your car remains parked at home?

The old X-Trail was square and looked like a truck. New X-Trail now at least looks so much better.....lol:biggrin:

I drive it 2-3 times a week to fetch my kids to school. I only refuel like once every 2 months.

Yes, used RX-8 is cheap but also consider the maintenance cost like replacement parts. It's not cheap. I spent RM3500 in April to change 4 ignition coil, a few faulty sensors, gearbox ATF flush and oil change.

That means you are like refueling less than 10 times a year. How did the fuel consumption fares against your Airtrek?

Well, if one is buying a sports car, of course need to expect sports car kind of maintenance cost...

My Airtrek and RX-8 averages similarly. Around 6km/L to 7.5km/L on highway. In terms of driving fun, both has it's plus and minuses.

Then I suppose RX-8 really is bad in FC. Since it is a NA engine and produces way lesser hp than your boosted Airtrek.

Later when you start modding your wira for power don't ask for better fc......lol:biggrin:

That is why I din't plan on doing anything big to the engine of my Wira in case it affects FC. I'm more into restoring wear and tear parts to make it a better car for daily drive...

If I plan to go all out on 4G15 mod until it affects my FC badly, it won't be economical to drive it daily anymore... Might as well save up to get a 2nd weekend car (can ignore FC since it is not used daily). Another thing is, if my Wira is going for major mods, then I will have transport problems since need to leave the car at workshop occasionally.

Cannot compare between a 13B and 4G63T modified. It's apple to orange comparison. The 8 is not designed for straight line speed and acceleration. The 50:50 weight distribution shines when I threw it into corners. It just bites. Forget about adjustables or any kind of bars. Chassis design is everything.

If I have the same kind of power (270whp) on my 8, I doubt it can be driven hard like now. Too much power prone to loose traction for FR. So the package is just perfect...

Also forget about modding a street car. I did it with my Mirage, Saga, Satria, Wira, Corolla AE111... it's waste of money. Just get a high performance ride and start from there...

What I mean earlier is, the 13B-MSP produces less power, but still consumes as much fuel as the higher powered 4G63T. In a way, it means the engine is also less efficient.

You've owned a lot of cars before. AE111 with 4A-GE or 4A-FE. For a high performance ride, I'm aiming at WRX STI Version 9 which is my dream car. Sounds like a cheap car to some, but that is a car that I like the most.

If got budget then no problem. Most of us can own street car at the start and that is what we can mod upon.....lol:biggrin:

Like me, I play around and mod my 3rd Gen Accord and my wife's then wira. After the accord I lay hand on my Galant and from there the mod start to differ. All concentrate on it to become a VR.....lol:burnout:

To be honest, it still depends on what kind of street cars and engine you use... There are those who put K20A into lightweight EG Civic and those A31 Cefiro running on RB26DETT. One problem with most street cars is, they probably have chassis rigidity issues if they went too powerful...

Heard before about you owning a 2 door Accord before but never heard before about you modding your Wira.

that's where seam welding helps:biggrin:

It was 4A-FE. I've spent a lot on mods. 0-100 was very fast eating up the Satria GTis back then. If I am not mistaken, it was 8.2 secs and still achieve 12km/L!
