Getting a 2nd hand Mazda RX-7 1996

Bro, if you want affortable maintainence, Silvia series was good buy..My S15 already 7 years and no major break down, just change oil and drive, but mine engine never mod la, remain fully stock ( only intake & exhaust mod ) until today.

RX7 & S2000 was my favorite even until today, but dint buy cuz worry maintainence and cost of upgrade + spare part.

Hope this help.

Yeap, its rare. A random search only 3 popped up. 3 different websites.
Its exp esp the hard top one coz the hardtop is an aftermarket part I think.

For such an expensive price and rarity, I think it could be more worth it to spend the money and time in looking for a NSX. Comparing NSX with S2000, NSX will win for it's looks, reputation and performance. No matter what, legend is still a legend even if it is older.

Well...as this comes to the 5th page of your thread here.....so by now you should've know which one that you would be choosing........12savefuel have given you a good insight on what to expect with the RX7s and also recommends S15 to you......surely folks here have been very helpful to share their good thoughts and experiences to you :)

Just something that i found.....although it is an auto....but seems to be worth it with the price....

Seems like most people say S15 and everybody seems to agree that its the car with good all round performance with good parts availability.

My 2cents about the S2000 vs S15. "You can always piss faster than can ever suck." a.k.a force induction.

S15 Silvia might be faster at straights due to better hp and torque. But at corners, I'm not sure how will it fares against S2000. Besides, the nice exhaust sound that the high revving S2000 makes, S15 won't be able to match it.

when it comes to attacking corners it does not depends how fast is the car, it all boils down to skills & balls

hi... i got this car before FD3S ...sold it because of need money to run a project :(

for me daily rider... maintenance is very low for the standard twin turbo... every 2 or 3 month i just change an engine oil, plug and oil filter which is cost at only not more than RM200... for the fuel, cost at RM150/tank can go for 630km with straight pipe 3inch run long distance but in town only can get bout 450km...(it's depend on how you ride your car!)... new spare part still can get easily but you must know where to buy... some body part need to costume .. for rotary garage, i have seen one at USJ1 Subang Jaya but i never send my ride because i can do it myself :D

Ah so you knew what needed to be done for the car then.
Completely agree with you on the "how you drive your car part".
Hmm, you make it sound a little better compared to previous comments on it. I still would love to get it but I don't think I have the money to maintain an FD3S, perhaps i'll check it out though not gonna get my hopes high.
Don't have that much of a budget for maintainance or parts cause dad only agreed to sponsor for the car itself only.
Will check it out though none the less and see how things go.

What kind of fuel do you pump? 97 or 95?
Also if I were to take it to that track I bet parts and maintainance would be pretty high wouldn't it in comparison to a Silvia?
Though a wankel engine + twin turbo would be epic!

Ya these type of cars, getting Auto is a waste. No point buying if want an Auto one.
Manual is the way to go.

Okay this car http://www.mudah.my/Nissan+Silvia+2+0+M+S15+SPEC+R+GOOD+CONDITION-22920963.htm wasn't such a good car...
May just get this one instead http://www.mudah.my/Nissan+Silvia+S15+M+R+450+BHP+Turbo+Direct+Owner-22073346.htm though i'm not to sure. I wanna check out the one in Johor, but is in Johor....

Man. Try this. Personally seen it before. Clean to the max. Healthy looked and sound.

After seeing two cars i'm planning to go to Johor just to check out this one that you recommended bro. Perhaps next weekend.

wat was wrong with the car?

The car seemed alright from the photos, but there we plenty of leaks here and there. Not to mention the water accumulation in certain parts of the car body. The abang had just cleaned the car in the morning and it was quite obvious to tell when I lifted the hood & boot. Battery was placed in a bad location and needed to be shifted (though I could do that myself) but the wiring... :banghead: I've seen bad wiring many times but my god the material used... The chassis was a little bit twisted of sort (probably from excessive drifting/track usage) and some of the wiring and piping for the components in the engine bay seemed loose, very poorly put together or maybe damaged from its usage (basic wear & tear). The carbon fibre wing had its sides clipped off as I suppose the previous owner had a use for it and the locking mechanism for the carbon fibre hood was either too damaged (rust/loose spring) or just didn't want to work.

I do realise its a second hand car and that nothing in it is gonna be perfect and clean, but you'd expect some maintainance/quality in terms of at least the essential components that run the car. What I saw was a car that has been used, abused and probably stripped of what was still good on it. It looks clean on the outside but suffered a lot internally. At least that's my opinion. I'm not a Nissan Silvia expert but at least I know it needs certain basic requirements. Didn't even get to test drive for 100 meter as the seller said he needed to draw up the paper work... I understand that its always a risk to test drive but even for a 100 meters in a straight line in your own car lot? In anycase its just my opinion, perhaps someone else who had a look at it would feel its a worthy car, though not for me. At least not at the price of RM90000 cash...

The other one was much better and well maintained in comparison though.

Sounded good, had a good chassis and everything ran smooth. Internal components could do some touch up work but was clean and set up was decent. Surprised me that he was selling it. The owner was even nice enough to take me for a very short but exciting spin in it. First time I flew back into my seat, who knew I needed 450bhp to do that, haha.

It'll either be this one or the one in JB. Gonna have to wait till next week though, gotta go see that car first hand after all.

Very thorough! Nice! How'd you check for twisted chassis though?

Manual is the way to go.

If the condition of the auto is good, probably worth to get it and then convert the transmission to manual using gearbox from halfcut. Months ago, I saw one very stock looking S15 Spec R Aero Silvia for sale but it is in auto. Everything is stock even the rims and exhaust. The car is in silver colour.

Haha. Hope you find a nice one.
Always remember it is not urgent to get a second car.
It need time to meet a good one then you won't regret when you see a better one.
" I have a good one already, this one is just as good as mine, no big deal "

Rev hard....
