Malaysian Toyota distributor, UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd, has officially announced that its Principal, Toyota Motor Corporation Japan, will be producing Toyota Camry's locally at its assembly plant in Shah Alam.

UMW Toyota will be investing an initial amount of RM100 million to start local production which will begin in 2 years.

The project was undertaken as a show of support by UMW Toyota and Toyota Motor Corporation to the Malaysian National Automotive Policy (NAP) to promote localization.

It is hoped that the project will benefit both local vendors and contribute to the Malaysian automotive industry in the future.
