Persona Elegance with many problems?

juz buy new persona b line manual. my problem is
1-brake is no `bite` at all. quite scary wen emergancy brake
2-steering very tight.think sent back SC do checking.
3-fuel about same as my 1.9 mivec. dunno how can this car get bosch fuel save award.so far ron 95 rm50 can go near 300km.
4-wen use 2nd gear corner slowly engine ll jerk untill whole car feel. if use 1st gear, the rev too high. so i jus hold the clutch wen corner.
but the new 32bit ecu quite good. the engine power really more the i imagine. cornering good, coz this car have ARB at rear as well.
overall until 1 week, i have no regret coz is only cause rm47000 to own a new car.
planning change lancer MR full set brake inculde master pump.

1-brake is no `bite` at all. quite scary wen emergancy brake -this car runs on 2 disc & rear drum, try press a little harder and if it still not comfy enuf...get the SC to adjust the rear drum..it will make a big diff...i tried on my own car..persona mline iafm year 2009.
2-steering very tight.think sent back SC do checking. - if its a bit tighter than usual its normal coz its a power assisted steering. if very tight..send to sc immediately.
3-fuel about same as my 1.9 mivec. dunno how can this car get bosch fuel save award.so far ron 95 rm50 can go near 300km. - u can check yr fuel consumption at yr speedo meter...mine read 6.8litre/100km.....if yours higher than 7.3litre/100km..pls send to sc to tune it....my rm60.00 can last me 400km at least .....with my heavy foot...serious...

my advice, for time being don mod anything...coz if later on any other things popped up...the SC will find reasons to void yr warranty.

bro,i am also driving proton persona iafm auto old version,the problem with the old batch persona as below -

1.steering always cannot straight 1 even after done alignment ( bush problem )
alignment & camber setting......bush problem usually will create sound...
2.whenever you pump petrol,the needle won't go up till the top ( fuel pump problem )
check the fuel float.....its under warranty..insist to get it changed. meantime, u can see the "distance to empty" indicator inside yr speedo meter...quite accurate..tried it b4 when i travelling up north....
3.when drive through uneven road got sound like metal hitting something ( problem still not solve as many ppl tried and got post this problem b4,but for my car the sound gone after some time )
i am lucky man, my car works fine on uneven road....no sound at all..even though i thrash my ride like a cow!.....
4.fuel cover leg broken and the clip fall off ( nowadays if u really see on the road,alot of persona fuel cover is black color,reason is they went back to claim the whole cover but only black color available,if same car color have to wait almost 1 week,i changed mine b4,they sprayed the color not so same as my car 1,lighter color.
its new to me.....i am speechless. sorry to hear that bro....
5.when the car drive until 100km the pedal there got vibrate,felt quite uneasy also but after i changed the aftermarket lighten crank pulley - problem solve,dunno what is the problem also.
i dunno bout this...i been doing 140 to 160 daily to work..coz i using the nkve, kesas & duke every morning. no vibration....
6.Rear boot can't open with key,after i went to sc and complaint,they fixed it for me.

7.When on aircond got sound
i agree the blower is very noisy but the air cond is wonderful...
so far all the problem above is what i am facing b4 in past persona,only problem num 1 not solve yet,i also very boring dy go to sc here and there to claim waranty,then have to wait also,my car also pay 9 years 1,at first i also thought the car very good,after drive for some time,the car is bullshit,no pick up,body very heavy and quality sucks,a bit better than gen-2 only,then i piss off,since things already happens and i got the car,i start to mod it,after modding it,my petrol even better than b4,my pick up much more better than standard persona,can ditch 1 1/2 car if race with standard persona,btw,if you want to claim warranty or service your car,dun go to the 1 located near kesas highway,big only the place but they do work no pro,go to glenmarie proton edar or those small shop near your place even better,if you plan to still drive this car,i suggest u change the extractor to 4-2-1,then add bullet and change muffler,change drop in air filter,change ligten crank pulley,cam pulley and change your tyre size to 195 / 55 then your ride will be much more better and petrol also save.

good one...i think i gonna mod mine later..but have to wait till my warranty over....who knows suddenly i need to claim any major parts...

I agree with you, jerry. Some of my friends that I've met recently told me the same thing. Their car which is Saga BLM 1.3 & Satria Neo have some major problem on their car as well until their warranty over and yet the car is not repair totally. They have been going more than 18 times to SC which is located somewhere near Glenmarie in Shah Alam. They totally lost their interest in their car. I dunno what they have in mind atm but they bought a new car which is Honda City 1.5 & Mitsubishi Lancer GT 2.0. Well, they were lucky to be born in rich family and I'm not. If I had the power to summon back time. I will do it cause I feel the same way as they did with their previous car right now.
honda, toyota, nissan , mitsu also got their problem....they even do recall for some defects and was nearly banned from certain country..mechanical tends to have problems, thats why they give warranty. i do understand yr frustration, but i have many friends using proton and they are happy and their cars are ok....lucky them....
I was lucky not to have an accident with my car atm. Almost (with a new Myvi SE while climbing the hill when the engine suddenly off) but not yet. Proton car somehow scare a lot to me now. However, I already booked my appointment "again" with Proton SC. Will tell you guys the result after that. Any owner of Proton Persona Elegance want to share? It will be helpful a lot to us if we had the same problem. I need a solution...

this is ECU problem, heard from my friend from proton, they need to reflash the ecu...and it takes 2hours to do so....they then will prepare some ecu and when u go in for svc..they will swap it. after that everthing comes back to normal.

Maybe just not your luck.

I'm driving persona SE year 2009.

I find it quite a good car.

The only issue i've had is that there was a sound somewhere. My 1st stop at the sc, it was resolved.

Sometimes, it is the sc that you go to. i've been with my SC when i first used Savvy. I was at the sc for almost 4 years. And i had to go back only once to get it checked twice due to electronic failure..

As for the fuel consumption, it is not fuel efficient in towns and cities and the right foot can make it worst.
i think u should send in to sc for tuning...mine catch 400km with rm60 fuel. no joke....my average fc is 6.8litre/100km
But i still like and confident of the car.

Hi to all driver of Proton Persona,

My purpose to open this topic of discussion is to get the feedback or an opinion or solution from the new Proton Persona Elegance that had been launched recently in Mac 2010. The reason is I just bought my own Persona Elegance for a month period but there have been several problem occured or more precisely, after one problem solved there will be another mess occured. Not my intention to downgrade Proton but in term of payment... I have to commit for 9 years. Therefore I need to know if there is another driver of Proton Persona facing the same problem that I had of worse and to get know how to solve it.

1st Problem
When I change to first gear, the engine always off.

Fixed after I sent to SC for 1000km service. The reason is fuse not tight or loose somehow. After a few days, while I was climbing a hill with my car; one major problem had occured which almost cause an accident with another car behind my car. The engine suddenly off many times on the hills. Lucky I manage to pull the handbrake & press the paddle brake. I'm stunned awhile. This car haven't go to a highest hill like Genting Highland. This weekend I'll try to drive it with my mechanic friend on Genting. If the engine off again, I had to send the car to SC "again"...
as mentioned above...ecu problem...resolve it by reflashing the ecu.
2nd Problem

I start the car and move like 2 feet and the engine goes off. I start the engine again, and the car suddenly like being posses. Hi-rev/rpm meter always jumping high. I haven't touch anything and step the accelerator at all. The engine indicator turn on also. I do feel scared after that and use my bike to go to work. Afraid like those people in America that having problem with their Toyota car that suddenly went wild to 160km/h.
So I bring the car again to SC. I always take a leave due to this problem that I didn't do. Even my boss ask me "I thought you bought a car can come early to work because of the commitment to pay but instead another situation happen..". Can you imagine how you felt if you in that kinda situation.

The problem solve, ECU problem. Fixed after they diagnose and reset using their equipment and computer.

3rd Problem

When I always using the brake, there is some uneasy noise coming from behind of my car. Like the wheel is going to loose or something similar.

This problem I haven't solve yet because it's new problem that occured. So I have to go to SC again. No time at the moment.
check the rear drum or the rear seat socket...it happened to my car too but now is solved....
4th Problem

Fuel Consumption is like really fast...not an economical car. I just fill in the car with RM100. Finish within a week. I just use the car to go to work and head back home. The distance is 20km x 5 days = 100km/RM100? that's a waste. I thought this car a family car which should be an economical car.
Back then I was using Satria MIVEC 1.8 turbo = RM50 with the same distance. :hmmmm: in term of fuel consumption, this car is expensive than my previous MIVEC Turbo... is this for real?... "miss my old Satria"

Sometimes, I feel regret buying this car. I'm the one in the family that bought a Proton car for the first time. I thought I can depend on it because it's a National car. (I'd listen to my girlfriend because soon I will be engage & marry. Buy a family car that suit for us). But it turn to be instead of it. Totally regret. It is not "Elegance" at all & I feel cheated about my car now. The test drive car is much more better than this. How is this happening.

i been using my car more than 1 year...never face any serious problem except got some sound behind the back seats....thats all. now my mileage running 45000km and still good. FC is good, handling is good, acceleration is great too...i hit 190km on straight road.

i am not trying to protect Proton or what...just sharing. if u guys need me to verify anthing, feel free to pm me....i let u test my car. i never regret owning this car, its within my budget (around rm50k) and its a brand new car. maybe i am a bit lucky....

so sorry to hear that u guys faced so much problem..hope all the problem can be resolved....if u need me to intro some good proton svc ctr, pm me...i get great svc by some SA and shit service by most of the proton sc....sometimes becoz of their attitudes, it makes us hate to own proton...lets hope proton are aware of their weakness in after sales......cheerz...PEACE!

sometimes small prob but was handled by those irresponsible svc technician....resulting in even worse outcome.

yes,i must agree persona is a good budget car,stable when driving fast, good at cornering,space already win vios & city and only the pick up lag a bit,as for quality wise,we can't complaint much as the price already so cheap,as long as the car dun give major problem then okay already,i drive persona till now almost 2 years i am satisfied with it even though there is some minor problem.

buying a cheap car doesnt mean it has to be poorly built with faulty parts. alot japanese car has "basic" range but not sold in malaysia. those car too are cheap but RELIABLE. sad to see alot new proton owners facing such problem with their NEW proton, and have to pay for another 9 yrs for it. if buying proton is like hitting jackpot to get the particular "well-built" unit, then better dont buy proton. dont waste your time and regret.

brother,even toyota and honda have their own problems yet they are paying alot more for that car,at this time now,you tell me,if you plan to buy a car with 60 - 70k budget,what choice do we have?even a toyota vios j spec manual also already cost near to 70k,u say worth it to buy or not?now a baseline persona only cost you 40 + k,u can take the 20 + k to mod your car and maybe still got balance also,proton cars are well known to have problems,we all also know,but what can we do?we just hope it'll get better and they will have solutions to our problem,at the meantime this persona not having major problem like brake failure or the car sudden rev by itself or gearbox spoil and etc,just some minor problem only which still can be solve as long as the warranty still have,all you have to do is find a good SC and talk to the SA nicely then they will somehow help solve our problem.

2nd vios oso bring alot problem. i buy persona b line manual with rm800 rebate, rm46100 oni. plus insurans ncb discount, otr oni rm45000.
latest persona with new ecu respone more fast. no throttle lag like previos model. which i suprise with this change. interior change like smoke meter make the car feel `expensive` but sumtimes forget turn on my light during nite.

actually buying "Japanese" car is not really expensive "if" we deduct 70% excise tax, 10% sales tax & 25% import tax. a "vios" most probably less than Rm30K. why there so many these kinds of taxes? this taxes is protect our own Proton & Perodua from others car manufacturer. if this 2 company still alive, then we still have to pay all these taxes.....maybe to our grandchild generations. my dad did pay for this taxes, and now is my turn. so next, my child? it's already 25 years for Proton, why they cant stand on their own feet? even a 25 years old adult stand on its own. for those who can afford, go and get a new or a used import car. for those who cant, just get a basic model local car is enough. local car 1.3l or 1.6l performance almost the same, why pay more? be wise.

in my humble opinion, unless you have 500k in your bank, it is pointless to buy a brand new car in malaysia. the new jap cars is expensive, the new proton is troublesome. why buying 2nd car is not good ? i have seen ppl buy new jap car but lives in small apartment, pay car everything but budget like hell. what is the point. it is even pointless to budget like hell n to own one troublesome proton.....

am i right ?
