How to choose engine oil?

Hello Seniors,

Been going quickly thru this thread, seen some of you suggesting Motul, Castrol, Shell engine oil. 5W30, 5W40, 10W40 and all. I was wondering if somebody could suggest me between Shell or Petronas engine oil for my stock 1.3GL Satria and Saga BLM? 10W40 or 10W30?

I read some forums saying it depends on the driver themselves in determine which engine oil suits them, but i've only used Castrol and Petronas before and not noticing or knowing much benefit from either one of them.
Hope to get enlighten from you seniors.

Just use 10W40, easy to find with the most choices of brands. You can just pick any trusted brands (Mobil/Shell/Castrol/Total/Mitsubishi Oil/Petronas/Bardhal) which are on promotion such as in Tesco or AEON (usually around rm80/4ltr bottle).

I would humbly suggest Top 1 besides castrol.
If castrol i'm using the GTX 0W-40. Feel lighter.
But if i can't find one or my money is actually in a weak state and coming to pokai,i'll go for top 1. almost the same. Blue bottle 10W-30.

Rarely there will be sludge.
Unless everytime high rev with 15,000km OCI(Oil change interval). For years.
Within 10,000km normal driving you will get away with it.

NA probably can for 10k km OCI, but for turbo not too good. My engine internal no sludge but darker in color. Have you checked yours?

Mine was super clean at 30,000km.
Cannot say VTEC na Too high rev.

TOTAL semi syn 5L...anybody tried this oil before? RM75 bucks for 5L is damn cheap. But 2 bottles can use 3 times in some cars

That is cheap, but I got a few bottles of Mitsu FS 5w-40 4L from Aeon Quill City at RM89. Normally sell at RM129, probably clearing their SM rated oil, but I check other Aeon store all still selling at RM129

Aeon they have individual store sale, Tesco all same oni got stock @ not, i've got 3 bottles previously so can use 5 times edi since the deer & fish oni use 3L, gst coming so bought another bottle last night & will buy another on pay day 30th, now checking few spare part shop for best price bulk purchase on oil filter.

But the Tesco I go to, like Puchong do not have. Seems when they have sale, another don't, so have to be at the right place at the right time.
Like LED house hold bulbs, I tried looking at a few Tesco in PJ and KL don't have but in Taiping have so I bought a lot from there.....

FS 5L sold at RM129 quite a few times already but saw only in selected Tesco outlets, some as you mentioned at RM150. If you do 3 to 6 months OCI still can keep a few bottles stock mah!
