TENGKU DJAN LEY WINS ROUND 2 OF D1 GRAND PRIX DRIFT

Johor Bahru: Local motor racing ace Tengku Djan Ley in a Toyota AE 86 powered his way to win round two of the D1 Grand Prix (DI GP) Malaysian drift series held at Danga Bay, Johor Bahru on Saturday, April 22. Second was Tan Tat Wei in a Toyota TE71 and third was Ariff Johanis Ahmad in a Nissan Skyline R32. Tengku Djan had a close tussle with Tat Wei and emerged winner to improve his position in the series from third position in round one held at Shah Alam on March 11.
A total of 33 drivers competed before a crowd of about 30,000 in the five-event series held for the first time in Malaysia. The top three winners of the series would have the right to enter the D1 GP event in the United States in December.
Amprex Motor Sports president Genji Hashimoto, the organizer of the event said he was pleased with the good response from drift drivers and fans especially from the southern region who were treated to an exhibition of world-class drift by Japanese “Drift” King” Keiichi Tsuchiya, who is also chief judge of the series. The next round will be held at Shah Alam on July 1st, Penang on August 12 and back to Shah Alam for the grand final on Oct.28.
