Yes its true, with Nissan’s new Navigation Enabled Cruise Control with Distance Control Assist (hope they figure out a shorter name) you can maybe do precisely that. This system, called the Intelligent Cruise Control System actually figures out when a corner is coming up and turns the car accordingly. It even accelerates up to the pre-determined speed after the corner. See what I mean? What are we drivers going to do behind the wheel?

Also a new feature, the Distance Control Assist alerts the driver to slow down (that’s what we are for), even if the accelerator is engaged, the system pushes the accelerator back against the foot suggesting to the driver to ease off the pedal. If caught in more alarming situations, the system will also alert the driver through message and audio warnings, probably begging the driver to apply the brakes, i.e. Stop, please stop!!

The Intelligent Cruise Control system plus Distance Control Assist can be controlled separately through steering wheel controls and the system also has the ability to operate in full speed range, starting from zero of course. Earlier intelligent radar based systems have speed limitations in the range of 5 to 100 km/h (not so intelligent after all).
Seriously, what are we drivers going to do behind the wheel in the not so distant future? Nissan has come up with a car that can drive through corners, Lexus has a car that can park itself, Mercedes has a car that can brake and accelerate by itself and Volvo has a car that can see blind spots. Maybe it would just be appropriate if designers come up with moving “intelligent” bedrooms.
