The Reality of Speed

That pinoy gtr was discussed about at gtr.co.uk if not mistaken.

It's not running a normal box...that's a Hollinger! If I remember correctly, the car is OS Giken rb30 also!

Nicolas Kiesa/Kismo car is not running stock bottom end. It's maybe a stock block (think might be a N1) but internals all lightweight and built-up... 800+hp engine.

I think for top speeds, GTRs are very limited ie. gearing plus aero... I think GTRs more set up for downforce so drag/lift ratio is higher.

Euro cars are more geared for autobahn speeds, E46 M3 can get close to 300kmh stock, big audis also, not to mention AMG mercs.

Always remember, top speeds are very very dangerous! The closing speed is tremendous, imagine one Plus highway, some people drive 80-90kmh on the right lane!!! If you were closing at 270kmh ..... please say your prayers :nurse:

Basically the only safe place is the autobahn, their lane discipline is much better, closing speed is less....also remember another very important thing to upgrade - BRAKES.

A stock E46 M3 will struggle to get close to 300km/h. Also, the other Continental cars are limited to 250km/h unless they remove it.

I'm very much aware of the dangers of speed but that's not the point of this thread. I'm just very much curious as to what sort of top speed local GTRs have managed to achieve.

Local top speed will be a dead end I'm afraid... lotsa claims will come out. Speedos (lol!) are at least 10% out at higher speeds too - it will need to be GPS-verified.

Unfortunately it's just the way the cars are built, Japanese roads are restricted to 110 kmh, cars are restricted to 180kmh/112mph.

Continental cars are very easily delimited... RS6/M5 will easily be near the 186mph/300kmh mark.. remapped and delimited RS6 has been clocked at well over 200mph GPS-verified...

The other thing is the NVH at higher speeds will be much less for conti-cars.

Bump: Here's another one.

Audi S4 with apparently *just* 500hp.
198mph = 320kmh

umm the pinoy GT-R you speak of with the hollinger box?

Jun-ed out engine baby. not RB30.

that video is pretty popular. here is the star of that video:

Pinoy BNR 34

yo fariz, bumped into your dad in cyberjaya yesterday. Must say he is a very friendly guy...

haha. this is a drug free forum. LoL
i was referring to moderate mods which don't cost more than 5k each that may help in attaining good and visible differences in the car's overall performance la. aiyoo..

I guess I'll have to start the ball rolling and get some local top speed videos up. Naturally it'll be done on a private road somewhere under a controlled environment (as much as can be expected).

Because I have hit (on my non-GPS verified car) just over 300km/h and I have to admit, the reason the speedometer showed 300, I looked straight ahead and never once did I look down again. Shortly after both my side mirrors folded flat and scared the fck out of me that I just backed-off.

Besides the last time I cruised with the Skyline guys, we were on KL-Putrajaya highway and I think the only guy who stuck close to me was Remus and even then he started to drop back. I guess I need to have my head checked - something loose somewhere.

Good idea... have you looked at the possibility of hiring an airstrip in Msia? I think all the airstrips are still in use by the airforce but maybe it can be done like over here, by making a deal with the RAF guys.

Kuantan and Sg Besi should have ample straights.

It's a shame they've dug out Subang airstrip...otherwise it would be a fantastic venue.

Also you'll have to get a GPS box... lots of cars have compared 'indicated' and 'GPS-speeds' apparently. The rule of thumb is - indicated 186mph=true 170mph ie. 10% discrepancy.

If anyone was going to do any top speed runs on our highways, I'd appreciate the heads up so that I can warn my relatives and friends to stay off the roads.

Seriously, it's unacceptable to run those kind of speeds on public roads, there are other road users that are put at serious risk.

I wouldn't dream of putting anyone's life in danger and if I were to attempt a top speed run, it would be on a deserted private road, ok well maybe not private, but hypothetically if I were to do so, I would first recce the road with a slow pass then when I do attempt to do so, have a couple of lead cars ahead to make sure nothing has changed in terms of conditions etc. We'll maintain radio contact throughout.

I'm no angel, I definitely break the speed limit but if anyone on these forums says they do not then I'll say stop lying and don't be a hypocrite. At least I'm exploring ways of making an attempt as safe as humanly possible and not to mention the fact that my car is always in tip-top shape, good brakes, tires changed 3-6 months, etc. No less dangerous than a 'kereta potong' welded together with chopped springs weaving in and out of traffic.

Good idea actually... that would make it possible to do a top speed run on public roads.

As you mentioned, you would need several spotter cars with walkie-talkies - more is better but maybe something like 10 cars at 1/2 km intervals.

Do it on a straight, and very quiet stretch of road (maybe like Northbound east coast...) once the 10 spotter cars give the all clear, you'd have something like a 5km stretch to go wide-open throttle. Ideally you'd need more cars for a longer stretch for braking but 5km should be enough for a flying start ie. 110kmh at the start.

Sound like a well planned mission to me.....don't tell me you all wanna do something like what Tom had posted about the Lambo stress to its limit ah???

w-w-w-what??

how do you know my dad?? haha

he is pretty friendly, unless he's taking my car for a spin! muahahaha

northbound east coast? which route is that? I'm pretty bad with maps.. lol

Is it the new LPT from Selangor to Pahang? If it is that route, I think it's not a good idea. The route is famouse for 'cows sleeping in the middle of the road' in the nights. Even in the news there are casualties involving car crashing head on the cow(s) sleeping on the road..

One thing tho, that particular route is pretty deserted. I mean, less traffic even on daytime.

Ya'll gonna do this during daytime or nighttime?

hahaha, yeah he was saying how he took ur car out for spins for the past few days... I was passing thru the 1 and only petrol station in cyberjaya, when he smiled and asked if i knew you...

hehe shit man.. what a coincidence... he is always in putrajaya..

yo pimpin, since ur in damansara?
the plus going towards port klang is quite deserted during the early hours of the day.
ran there once when first got my car. kinda nice. :D
hit 272km/h then oil temp went up to 120. lol

Hi Guys...try the new highway going from Kajang to Mantin though it is dark in most part of the highway but very smooth. :driver:

How bout Duke highway? There's a 4 lanes stretch across Jalan Kuching, but not sure what's the max length can go la. Haven't try yet. But that's not a dead flat road la.
