Samy: Present toll agreements stay

KUALA LUMPUR: The Government had renegotiated all concession agreements with highway operators in 2003 to reduce toll rates, Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said.

He said the Government had extended toll increases from three years to every five years and lengthened the concession period to reduce toll charges.

Samy Vellu was commenting on a suggestion by Fomca adviser Prof Datuk Hamdan Adnan on Monday that the Government should renegotiate all the agreements as the present ones were “too one- sided and against public interest”.

“I appreciate and respect Hamdan’s views but it is not possible to renegotiate the agreements as it involved huge borrowings from the financial institutions,'' he said.

On Hamdan’s suggestion that the Government buy all the concessions and sell them to other companies so that they might charge more reasonable toll rates, Samy Vellu pointed out this would mean that for PLUS alone, the Government would have to pay some RM65bil.

I remember the Petronas 4x4 convoy from KL to China pass through Thailand doesn't encounter any toll in Thailand, when can we c this happen in M'sia? 2030? 2050? 3000? I admit M'sia has the most complete highway system in SEA region but think about traffic condition, every perayaan period road user will have to jam in higway for hours becoz of damn blood sucking toll!! toll fees keep raising, traffic keep jamming, thanks alot for ur puny 4 lanes highway!!

[RM80 million (PLUS) + RM 50 million (KESAS) + RM60 million (LDP) + RM70 million (SPRINT) + RM290 million (PROLINK 0_o)] x 30 years = RM 16 billion...

the 65 bil is only meant for PLUS alone, it doesn't cover other toll (Kesas, LDP, SPRITN and etc), so it can be,

01 it's stated in the contact (which it never review to malaysian, and we are paying the toll everyday without knowing the contract contents, FCUK!) that, Goverment may need to pay a lum sum of money if that Gov want to buy over or terminate the contract earlier.

02. 65 bil to buy over the entire PLUS company? the contract shall come together with the company, right?

03 S. Vellu try to make the amount big and try to scared us off to voicing it out that option again.
