Hi guys, need some advise concerning the fuel problems for my engine. I just installed my new engine into my car. The problem is like this, after driving for some time, when idling my car, the rpm will drop until almost 0 and won't come back up. Even when i'm driving my car it seems like there's not enough petrol to pump into my engine, the rpm goes up very slow until the turbo opens. I changed my fuel pump to RB26dett pump, the rpm response improved very much, but sometimes it is still like this, after driving for some time. Any of you faced this kind of problem before? Thank you so much for the help.

[ask a foreman to check got so many things involved might be ur timing, idle valve, intercooler pipe bocor,ur airflow sensor...bla bla bla....

Looks like same problem like mine. After driving for some time, and then you slow down for a traffic light/pay toll, the engine would stall right.

If u search at skylinesaustralia and skylinesdownunder, you'll see that this topic has been heavily discussed. But the variables to solve the problem is too much. You might want to read posts by this guy called 'Phantom'.

Good luck man... if you fix it, let us know yah...

Dude,

there can be a whole bunch of reasons why you're not getting enough fuel... 2nd hand pumps might be on their last legs... not always advisable to go that route... you might want to consider a good replacement like a Bosch or a Walbro (although these might be a little costlier). Also, make sure you change your fuel filter. That is another one which is often overlooked.

On some used engines there is also the problem of a stuck or leaky fuel pressure regulator - try swapping or better still get an after market replacement WITH a pressure gauge. RB20DE/DETs run 36psi at idle and 43psi with the vac hose unplugged. Check on this....

As for the leaky boost, you can always spot this one - your car will be running excessively rich and the power delivery will be erratic.... once the MAF meters the intake air, the appropriate fuel is injected. If there is a leak, some of that air escapes and the result is a rich fuel mixture. Sometimes you might even get leaky blowoffs.... bloddy rotten problem there really!

AS far as the idle is concerned, the main things that you wanna look at are the IACV and the Air Regulator. If you've just got a used engine, remove the IACV and clean the bugger with some engine degreaser. Also when you remove it, ensure that the spring is closing the plunger all the way. The Air Regulators also tend to get clogged with oil/air mist sometimes so that's worth a quick check too. If your mechanic has any of these lying around then do a swap and see if it makes a diff.

Oh and when buying a replacment IACV or Air Regulator take a sample with you since these things have different sockets for different generations of the same engine!

Good luck!

Ugh... all this sounds way too familiar....

new engine installed?

could be your wiring not done properly
bad wiring can cause a heck of a lot of problems trust me.. been there

you running aftermarket BOV?

Jebu..
lesson learned ???

Hey.. how that walbro ?
that day i cabut early
got dinner lo

Thanks guys, especially zephuros who wrote all those tips. If I can fix this problem, will post it up for everyone to view.

Update on my engine idling problems...problems solved
seems my air-fuel sensor is dirty and need cleanup, and after putting in an oil catch tank, everything is smooth.

what does the oil catch tank improve?

zeph,
where is this air regulator? not the same as the AAC valve right?

Know any good RB20DET mechs around? I've been doing most of the troubleshooting myself.

hey dudes,

the air regulator is right under the throttle body, or real close to it anyway. Look for it.... but be warned - it's damned hard to reach. Just check and see if it is there and working properly. If you are not getting a fast idle on cold starts then there is a good chance that your air regulator is out of commission. Oh ps, don't try and be a champion like me and play around with the spring in the air regualtor... leave it as it is! hahah! I messed mine up from doing that.

What you had cleaned is the Airflow meter... i think that was the cause. And yes, it can get quite mucky with oil mist from the blowby. A catch tank should solve that problem right away. No issues there... If you are getting excessive oil in the catch tank then it can be a number of things.... and be warned - it can be a sign that the rings are on their way out! Also, make sure that you don't end up with a vacuum leak once you install the catch tank...

zep

:P :P :P :P :P hahahahaha... damn.. better installed my oil catch soon. hehehe... been revving high nowadays. :D

Revving hard and going sideways... just make sure there is no oil starvation problem in your sump! :) mebbe get a baffle made and installed around your oil pickup in the sump

wideawake:

Oil catch tank captures dirty stuffs like oil or dust that goes into the engine, makes your engine environment cleaner, cleaner engine environment will improve performance slightly (like when u pick up, your engine revs smoother). Can feel the difference after you have installed it and drives your car for some time. I'm servicing my car in Jln. Chempaka near Pandan Indah or Pandan Jaya, you can find the signboard stating Jln. Chempaka in Yellow wording when you driving in Kesas Highway, look for the HSBC flyover.
