plannin to diy sub box

1. download WinISD
2. Key in the subs T-S parameters and save
3. Choose you want to go sealed or ported
4. choose what kind of response that you want. If you decide to go sealed box then higher Qtc = boomy and lower Qtc = plays deep but not loud.
5. If you want to go ported, choose what port tuning freq. you want to go based on how low you want the sub plays. But with ported box, i would not recommend for newbie unless you have someone to guide you all the way. Otherwise you will end up with no good result.
6.Once you have the box size, look at your boot and see how you want the box to look like i.e the shape.

Usually my method is too look at what amp power you have and how much space you are willing to sacrifice for the box. Then i do a compromise. I will make it big for those who does not have the power and small for those who is not willing to sacrifice space. Those who want small and plays low, i port it and tune low. Why not sealed? Coz' it needs BIG box to play low (there are exceptions for some subs eg. Adire Audio Brahma).

not much time so post your detailed questions. I look at it later.

cheers,
kip.

appleyard..where 2 get tis win isd?
i wan 2 make enclosure 4 kicker comp vr wit a very solid hard hitting bass....

Few other pointers when makign your box.

1. Try not to make the rear board parallel to the sub. This is to reduce backwaves.
2. Get soem sealing silicone and seal up the edges of the box to ensure there are no leaks for selaed and for ported its also importnat as it ensures that the air travels through the port only.
3. Use 3/4" MDF as a minimum.
4. I so far find that deep boxes are better than wide boxes... personal preference on this
5. get some undercarriage spray and spray the interior of the box.. thsi goves more mass an makes the box more solid.

i think now can get a box quite cheap rite? the mdf i was told cos rm90 already for a 4 x 6 one i think.....n it is 3/4" thick only
