as it says.. 97 RON (Research Octane Number).. Americans use PON (Pump octane number), which is an average of RON + MON (Motor Octane Number).. which is why their max seems to be 95 PON compared to our 97 RON, which is actually quite similar, although the numbers are a little different.. The PON rating is usually lower than the RON rating, even when the fuels are the exact same one, due to how they calculate the rating.
If you're wondering if we can fill up with the 92 RON fuels on B16/B18/B20B.. errr.. no... you'd risk knock as the revs climb.... unless you detuned your ECU for a less agressive ignition timing curve.
And if you think our current fuel prices are cheap, then you can try fill-up with this...
each pump gas is different.. according to the tuner at Vis Auto, if use shell V-power when tuning, using other brands 'might' get knocks since octane may be slightly different.
For me, due to differences in even with the same RON ratings due to different additives, best go quite conservative, as you might not have a choice of which fuel you might have to use. So in a pinch, even the 92 ron can run... just not at full throttle.
If you're already running on some ECU management systems that allow keeping more than one map.. why not have two for race fuels and normal fuel?
yap..in japan got 100RON but the price..about rm4.50 per liter..huhuh..fulltank will cost rm 225..
the 2nd grade is 97RON..about rm4.10..better put 100RON
actually imported performance cars like subaru impreza @ mitsu evo etc. must use 100RON in order to maintain its engine best performance(stock)..coz the engine@ecu setting la(coz in japan got 100RON)..if u open the 'tempat isi minyak' theres a warning not to use other than 100RON(in japanese la)...that is why in country like australia their subarus is modified to produce about 250@260hp only..coz in aussie the best grade is 98RON..but in msia i dunno la..
