Bear in mind that mods such as exhaust wraps will prolong the heat soak of a exhaust header which will ultimately increase the chance of stress failures from the heat. It would be better to coat the manifold/header with a ceramic or equivalent coating but again this is at additional cost..
noted...but from experience...if a proton does not have a heat shield covering the extractor manifold , the heat from the extractors does cause premature wear in a lot of other parts...which is actually not good. It is therefore necessary for one to buy a manifold from reputable companies, so that the chances of the manifold cracking is less. I've been usin my manifold for with exhaust wrap, so far no problems. Previously, without the wrap, i noticed extreme heat warping around the crankshaft pulley, waterpump areas in my proton. Better to wrap than have heat destroy other parts around your car.

I have to agree with your posting on the brakes....the standard setup may be useful as the car is lighter than the stock gti. But as i say...options is a good thing to have. And development time and budget is another. R3 being the swansong of the current satria, may not have had this luxury. But this is why we SHOULD and MUST see some great stuff in the NEXT R3 model.

regards.

I've been using an aftermarket header together with 11.9 compression on my car but don't have any heat soak problems..

If u have heat soak on the water pump and crankshaft pulley, this could mean uneven airflow around the engine bay. You sure you don't have any blockake somewhere? Using a radiator top panel (slam panel) also helps...

you must be running a mivec engine to run that high. The heat emmissions would also be different from a non-mivec engine (your stock head could be 11.0:1 in the first place). i run 10.6:1 on my 1.6 sohc. Uneven heat distribution may be due to the fact that i have not cut up any holes anywhere...everything is stock proton fittings. bonnet, bumper..etc. Radiator runs very well. No blockages anywhere as far as i know of. BTW, Are you using ceramic headers?

11.9 compression? :o

IIsaw, isn't yours a 4G93T Putra? That's a bit on the high side of the compression range isn't it?

I'm running a 93T RS engine in NA form... B) Haven't cut up any holes anywhere too..

Crash,

Nolar.. You must have mistaken me for Jack bro (AlucraD). I'm the NA guy..

heeheheh he doesn't know.. :P
:o I never knew IIsaw! I always assumed that you were driving a 4G93T! This is news to me. And very 'interesting' too! :)

But 11.9 CR is still bloody high man! Nice.

very very very high comp ratio llsaw....i think i had the heat problems after i got stuck in the labour day jam on the N-S highway for my trip to ipoh - 5-6 hours of jam does wonders to the engine bay. It was after that i decided that you actually need thermo wrap for things like this.
