Back in its days, the Jaguar XJ220 was hailed by much as the King of Supercars. Although it was earlier stated to have a four-wheel drive system and a V12 engine powering this mid-engined speed demon, the production version only had half of those two but still manages to set a record for the highest top speed of a production car from 92-94 at 350km/h, which the McLaren F1 obliterated not long after with its 391km/h top speed.

<a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/cx75_3.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-35075" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/cx75_3-600x398.jpg" alt="" width="600" height="398" /></a>

Since then, Jaguar had been shying out from the supercar industry and focuses on making powerful grand tourers like the XKR and so forth. But that does not mean that they will shy out from the supercar scene forever as Jaguar already had something new lined up for the near future with the C-X75. While it already has the looks of a supercar; being flat and low, this new mid-engined exotic is said to have about 500 horsepower coming out of it.

<a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/cx75_4.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-35076" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/cx75_4-600x397.jpg" alt="" width="600" height="397" /></a>

And what powers this big cat; a V12? V10? Or maybe a V8? None of those actually as this new-generation supercar will only be housing a 1.6-liter inline-four engine as its main powerplant at the back of the driver’s seat! This amazing power output was actually possible by twin-charging the minute engine, which in other words equipping both a supercharger and turbocharger on the same engine.

<a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/cx75_2.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-35074" src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/cx75_2-600x398.jpg" alt="" width="600" height="398" /></a>

With such boost strapped on, 0-100 is said to be dealt at below three seconds and top speed is in the range of around 320km/h. And born in today’s hybrid movement, it also has a 600-volt battery pack onboard which is constantly being charged by the engine. The batteries will then power up the electric motors, allowing the car to run in clean mode at speeds up to 65km/h.

Sounds good? It is priced “good” too as it is said to be priced around £700,000 to £900,000 (RM 3.4 mil – RM 4.4 mil), and those had yet to include the taxes. Wonder if this one could get included into the hybrid vehicle tax exemption scheme…

Doesn't sound good to me, such a big supercar only powered by such little engine! At least should be a 2.5-3ltr V6. But if it comes to Malaysia with such small engine then it only pays Rm90 for road tax!

i think it uses range extender concept like the one proton/lotus exora trying to do....

use small engine to charge battery and run with combined power on electric power as well as the engine power

bro, even F1 is 2.3 liter. huhuhu what im thinking is. the supercar in future adapting the F1 technology. shoter block. shorter crank. etc. but can churn out amazing hp. even F1 soon gonna be 1.5 turbo. but the horsepower is still remains 1k hp.

concept is to produce smallest engine but using induction turbo or supercharge to maximise the horsepower and pickup. just my two cents

Well, you are talking about combustion engine+electric motor, so better not judge performance on engine size alone.

Sounds GOOD! 1.6L Engine powers 500HP? This is worth it...road tax cheaper

No longer need to have supercars whereby is roughly 6.2L with 500HP...xD

Just wonder how is the FC like :hmmmm:

A lot of benefits, better fuel consumption, weight is down, handling should be better.

Way back, F1 was using 1.5 Engine 4 bar boost pressure. 1300 bhp to 1500 bhp.

Well F1 is pulling very lightweight body and it's a race car meant to be driven only at high racing engine speeds. Moreover max power is not everything, but how linear the power delivery is the more important aspect especially for road cars. True that in the 80s F1 engines were only 1.5ltr boosted so high (maybe upt to 4 bars) to make over 1K HP at quali trim, but then the power delivery was so peaky. Nigel Mansel once mentioned that his William Honda turbo power delivery was like an on/off switch, press the pedal-wait-then suddenly boom!
Well I guess Jaguar is trying to compensate the bottom end via supercharger plus the electric motor maybe. Anyway if Jaguar can make the supercar perform and drive as good as those V8/V10/V12 monsters, then good job for them. But just imagine you look at a big body, low slung, killer looking supercar, and then open the engine compartment only to find a tiny 1.6ltr 4 banger there! Not really a good sight to behold like when we admire Lambos or Ferraris with those amazing looking V8s, V10s or V12s. Or is this car actually a small sportscar like the Lotus Elise/Exige?

This car is definitely in the supercar territory, what with an estimated 0-60 under 3 secs and a top speed in excess of 320kmh....The sight of the engine is one thing, how about the sound?? Sound is such a big part of the supercar experience. I doubt this would sound like a V12 now would it?

Correct me if Im wrong....

Could it be a 16,000cc instead of 1,600cc ?

If a 1.6 can do that speed....

Then the British are far more advanced than anyone else...

Well what say you?

I can imagine how a 1.6cc "sports car" will vrroom like....

Its could be like vrom and not VVVRRRROOOOOMMM....:burnout::burnout:

Probably a one inch diameter exhaust can take the fumes????

hahahaa.....

Not just turbo anymore, nowadays similar system like KERS is also utilized, not to mention electric motor assist for extra power..

i doubt they gonna use electric motor assist. basically, the main point of racing and supercar. is produce enuff speed and horsepower to speed junkie. and to get speed and horsepower, the engine must be very light, and the car also must be light.

electric motor assist comes with the motor itself which is very heavy. and the its own controller. and super heavy battery pack. thats heavy. supercar with lower CC and electric motor assist? don tink so. but if with turbo or supercharger. i bet we can see it in future.

1.6cc doesnt mean the engine sound gonna be like normal waja. hello, F1 tech. either using v6 or v8. but the piston, crank etc gonna be really really small, lightweight and very pack. but the compression should be higher. thats where the power and the nice sounds came along.

u guys got to know something. bigger CC doesnt mean it has bigger HP. :)

This car IS a hybrid, so it will come with electric motor, I assure you. The CX75 comes with 4 electric motor.

If horsepower is the only goal, of course a simple ol' turbo would suffice. But today's F1 regulation is different so teams have to follow that regulation, regardless of issues like weight. If FIA wants them to use electric motor assist, they don't really have a choice. Since FIA is keen to keep F1 relevant with current trends, some sort of hybrid technology was introduced, hence KERS.

Even the new 918 Spyder that's gonna be put into limited production comes with electric motors, 3 of them in fact, for an additional 218hp to supplement the engine so Jaguar is hardly the only manufacturer to do this. They even have a racing prototype hybrid, the RSR. If I'm not wrong, even Audi have introduced their own hybrid prototype.

Hey Bros,

I'm driving a 4g18 with a Bolt on turbo.

I currently have an unknown leakage near my injector area. It only occurs under full boosting at 0.8Bar. when i drive normal without flooring, no issue of leaks at all.

The substance is red in colour and does not evaporate at all. A mechanic told me it may be my injector seal leak and the substance is fuel. However, to my knowledge, fuel will evaporate almost instantly and should not leave behind red substances right? My injector seal...
