I need Help from you all about I'm thinking to Buy PS3 but i dunno where is the best place to buy and price ofcos MUST BE realible~, i been survey around Sg wang and they quote me price all Diffrent and Some of them said need to MODIFY than only can
play all GAmes due to region Disc...(Is this True??)

well I really have No Idea on Ps3 compare to Ps2.. as I know last time thoes games like JApaness games can't play on Us version Ps console, so this one issit same as Ps3 they try to say?

So My questions are:
1) Issit really Need to Modify the Console?
2) Issit 120G version is the Latest?
3) last question Any good recondmended place & cheper price i can get?

I have had my PS3 since January 2007 which i purchased from Japan and never had any problems with it. You will need to choose either Japanese or English. That's it.

You won't be able to play genuine DVDs with a different region code than the one for Japan, whichi forgot what is it. So it's either the multiple-region genuine DVD or nothing at all. Most DVDs from Speedy will not work. As well as DVDs that are in PAL like the ones from Australia.

All other home made DVDs and those obtained illegally will play. though there are some that will not play.

You don't need to do any modification on the PS3 to play games. unless you're referring to pirated games, there aren't any on the market as far as I know. I could be wrong.

I've bought PS3 games from Japan, Singapore and Malaysia and they all play normally. You can even download free demos or full versions from the PS3 store which is quite a bonus.

unless modifications that the shop suggest implies playing PS2 games, i wouldn't know about that

But Tom~ When u Brough fRom Japan version.. do U need to Buy the Transformer which is Japan country is 110V and malaysia is 220V...
so means i can buy any console that can play all Malaysian Blue Ray Disc?? Thanks~

hi Dump Racer, sorry for the late reply,

I have the 80gig version.
You don't need a 110v transformer for the PS3.
I actually bought one the next day when i came back from Japan only to find out a few days later that i can actually plug into the 220-240v power points here in Malaysia. I have been running the PS3 direct without any transformer since January 2007.

As for Blu Ray discs, as far as i know, you can play all types of Blu-Rays with no probs. They cost RM149 and will only be worth it only if you're going to run HDMI at 1080p on your large Full HD screen and a 5.1 and up sound.

Anything lower, you're better off wathing regular DVDs. The PS3 has built in DVD playing improvements and upscaling. It's great watching even regular DVDs on it. I have been using the PS3 as my only player since i bought it almost everyday. It's also my only music player, video player for my HD camcorder through the memory stick and picture viewer.

But beware of the pirated Blu-Ray discs with similar Blu-Ray design but on cardboard packaging.

They are claimed to be direct copy of genuine blu-ray discs, with all special features removed, and then compressed into good dual-layer DVDs. These are in fact better than regular DVDs but no where as close as true Blu Rays. Though some are straight-off regular DVDs put into Blu-Ray disc inspired packaging.

ok here are my answers

1) about the modify part i think it is more like update the OS of PS3.. bcoz PS3 has a special OS like windows... n also i heard if got modify version, SOny can detect n put virus in ur console. So dont go on9 with the modified version. Also based on my experience with my nephews PS3... u dont need to modified it to play PAL game or NTSC game... so far my nephews PS3 is PAL but he buy NTSC games n can play somemore with no problem (maybe bcoz of HD format) So it is false la about the modify to play other region. Also now PS3 got the Dual Shock 3 controller no more sixaxis...

2) Unsure la.. sounds like XBox 360 to me.

3) This one, well my places sells RM1300 or below (didnt check since last month but i think it has dropped).. i recommend u go to ur trusty PS shop. Sure they will give u the best price !!
