I currently have an A15 1.5 litre on my old volvo which is severely under-powered considering the heavy body. Rather than having an engine transplant, what other alternatives are there to increase the torque and hp?

Is there anyway to increase the engine capacity by re-boring the block and getting larger pistons, and if possible, what is the max capacity it can go to?

If it is not possible to modify it, is there anyone who's interested in the engine/parts? I will then remove the current engine and replace it with another one.

eerr..how did the a15 ended up in a volvo?

change the engine... engine too underpowered for a volvo..

moreover, its hard to find performance parts for A15.. normal service parts can find ler...

try to do a search... seen ppl modify this engine before... somewhere on the net..

sorry if couldnt be more help to ya..

keke last time still in college donno mah, family's mech recommended A15 cos it was cheap, but in the end so under-powered. Drove it once to low yat it almost didn't make it up the parking.

narx whats the engine in your car? is it similar to A15?

I've read it on the net, but mostly on the 1.2l version they rebored it to 1.5l with some n/a mods to get 160hp, but for the 1.5l not much done except transplant to a different model like CA18.

found out more about A15, no wonder so under-powered la, only 67hp! http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/30037/ Torque slightly better, 115Nm.

Even stock 1961 volvo engine had better power/torque.

i`m using E15..

if i`m not mistaken..
A15 is in the vannete also..

yea narx it was actually from a vanette.

Whats GA16 starwing?? I only know A15, E15, CA18, SR20, RB20, RB25 and RB20, Me not very good at nissan engine names.

Toyota 4AGE also possible it has twice the HP rating ang better torque also, but price wise almost the same as SR20 conversion.

first time to hear that an A15 into volvo.......maybe coz it's a rear wheel drive?

actually... got japanese modified that engine
until very strong..

u see the A series is very durable
so make it rev until 11000rpm no problem one

the block is thick.. so boring to 1.8litre no problem one
then change to higher cam
change piston,
dual carburetor... etc etc

it will be a very nice engine..

yea agree with the rest,i think a15 in the volvo is a bit underpowered, i used to have a datsun sunny 1200, if put a15 compared to the a12..then power la.I think TOMEI still make parts from the a series engines? But i think modyfing the a15 would end up costing more?

idea for u, what about FJ20 turbo engine from dr30? would suit the car weight and it will be more hardcore B)

whats ur budget?

its best to see first how much u can work around with...
Doing an engine rebuild can end up costing alot more than a transplant
But if you have the budget then a rebuild would allow you to build a more reliable engine.

Sweet ride, I love the Volvo 122(2door)... if cash permits I would love to get one for myself...do it up and put in maybe an RB25det or 1jz-gte... :P ...there is an unbelievable amount of space in the engine bay!!!

All the best in your project!

Cheers

Just plonk RB20 into it. Those unwanted RB20DE or even RB20E... better than rebuilding the a15... my 2 cents

actually the engine bay is very small, only looks big from the outside. It can't fit an RB20, at the most SR20.
