Michelin has taken upon itself to pick up the slack in the World Rally Championship (WRC) where Pirelli had left to honour its contract for the supply of Formula One tyres.

Having claimed the F1 contract, Pirelli decided that the requirements of the WRC would have been too demanding and dropped out of the WRC. This plays along fine with the news that the WRC is switching to a multi-supplier framework and allowing other tyre manufacturers to join the rat race.

Next season when Michelin tyres are lining up on the grid, it will be the first time since 2005 that the French tyre manufacturer has lined up in the top flight of rallying.
