Intercooler recommendation

hi bro tomicagtr, cheers!
RM5k for Greddy Spec R? *gulp!*

Any chance that this http://www.mutiaramotors.com/mmp-m7-product-cooling-typer.html is the same as the Greddy Spec R you talking about? Cause I just placed an order for this.

Bro dawg,

By looking at the spec, it's suppose to be the same with light weight made aluminium piping and chrome polish look. Even for side tank polishing it is equal to spec r-hpl-hg (advance spec r). Greddy has lower spec m but that will be cheaper. Anyhow there must be reason behind why the different price is significant but not known to me. My 2 cent, 2k is a worth buy for M7 intercooler.

Don't forget to share your feeling after using M7 one haha..

Bro,

If got budget better go for Garret core, its proven reliable. for example during dyno session no need to spray water for cooling, you still can run few times before the temperature get high. Also the finishing is nice, and the end tank you can custom to make it wider. Japan parts in terms of quality is ok, but expensive compared to US. Just my opinion

i've read good reviews on garret cores. where can i get them? and what's the price range?
Anyone using an M7 core right now that can give feedback?
actually i also read that garret turbines got better review from tuner compared to HKS 3037.
Anyone's got an opinion on this?

For AMS parts, if not mistaken GT Auto Sunway is amongst the dealer. Or just visit JC Auto Performance at the Strand,Kota Damansara for a nice price of parts.

Garrett=ETS,Buschur Racing etc
All of those above brand utilize Garrett intercooler core but need to be imported from US
HKS GT3037S is an outdated dinosaur turbo LOL and you are essentially paying to buy HKS brand if you buy that now
Garrett,Forced Performance,Precision Turbo and Borg Warner is so so so far ahead when it come to turbo game(Billet Compressor Wheel,TI-AL Turbine Wheel etc)
EVO is one of the lucky platform when it come to turbo choices
You can make ~600whp on stock frame turbo nowadays

All this from someone who doesnt own an evo. Get a life kid:thefinger:

I purchased the M7 intercooler kit already, waiting for the workshop to get it all done. I was quite surprised that for a plug and play kit, the intercooler is larger compared to the stock ones! i measured the core is 60cm wide (excluding the sides polishing). hopefully it wouldnt induced much lag to a bone stock car. i am hoping that the cooler air will offset the differences, afterall it was claimed to give around 20-30hp difference for the stock set up.

Using the stock intercooler on city driving, i logged the intake air temp around 45-50deg afternoon. and night driving around 38-40+deg. (agak agak recall only using the Greddy infometer).

Will check and see if the cooling is better after replacement, and hopefully an ecuflash retune to optimise the new hardware.

keep me updated bro dawg,
i'm also thinking of doing a reflash
just got my car back with a spare stock evo9 intercooler
so let me know how you feel about the m7 la
cheers and thanks bro

hey bro, whats the update? curious to know.

Hey guys, sorry for late replies. Seldom log in to check.

Will be collecting car over the weekend., did a full service and many wear and tear parts to replace (what to expect from 9 yr old car lol).

I logged the air temp with new intercooler during afternoon around 41deg. However this was without hard driving and boosting.

This weekend will hook up the info meter again to test air temp during high boosts. However no plans to send the car for dyno anytime soon, as long as the road tune and wideband shows engine is sufficiently fueled boosting 24 psi (tapers down to 19-20 psi) with no knock/pinging then I'm cool with it.

On the cosmetics point of view, the intercooler is huge. It covers the voltex front bumper bodykit perfectly. It uses back the stock ct9a piping so no mods required on brackets and they provided all the silicon hoses and clamps and brackets to mount on the front metal beams. A stock bumper will be no problem clearing the intercooler even tho the size is significantly bigger.

bro, is the kit complete with all hard piping ? how about battery area ?
does it come with the battery tray to shift the battery 45 degree to make way for the new pipes like what HKS does ?

what is the price ? many thx !

Hey h22-c,

The kit only plug and play to replace the stock intercooler. Hard piping not included. Surveyed market price around RM2k before installation.

Ok did some logging with Greddy Infometer, used the Intake Temp parameter.

Yesterday was a pretty hot day. Went to Klang around 10am-11am and the intake temp was logged at 43deg-47deg all the way cruising around 100kmh with some occasional boosting to overtake cars. However once reach toll or slow down due to traffic, the intake temp rise to around 49deg+. When stationary it went as high as 59deg.

Night driving, not too bad, around 36-41deg cruising. A few pull made it 47deg. Same as above when slowing down or slow speed the temp goes up to 50+deg.

A few point that I need to mention is I have a gialla cf hood, it has many vents and air duct in the middle so my engine bay temp could be very much cooler that can affect my results. However after installing the intercooler and a reflash, the car is very responsive to 6k rpm. Results tested was without intercooler water spray as I have not re-installed the hardware onto the bumper yet.

That's all from my experience, cheers.

Here is a pic of the intercooler. Sorry for late posting.
Cheers.
