High Pressure Pump fault, should replace immediately?

Last monday, I started the car in the morning, car was idling badly and jerking. Then this error popped up.

Since I had bought an OBD2 device earlier, I plugged it in to the obd2 port and did a scan, here is the result

Here is a video depicting the issue

With the check engine light on, LIMP mode is also activated, cant exceed 90km/h

So I brought it to the Peugeot Service centre for a checkup. They confirmed its a problem with the HIGH PRESSURE PUMP. It will cost RM 3K++ to get it fixed. I told them that I will get it fixed outside (I know a peugeot specialist than can replace it with lower price than the SC). Here is the full diagnostic report

Took the car out of SC, and they had cleared the error code, the car is now out of limp mode, and most important is turbo is back.

Now since its functioning normally already,I am contemplating whether if I should go get the high pressure pump fix, or just ignore this and continue driving normally since the car acts fine now after clearing the codes. What is the consequences if I dont get the pump replaced immediately? (It is still costly even at the outside specialist to fix)

What's your thought? Should I replace it immediately or should I wait until the check engine light appears again?

Hi Azlan,

I have a suggestion only.

I would double check whether the fuel pump is really faulty as it seems to have stabilized as it could be just something perhaps stuck in the fuel lines. (Referring to the Characterisation : Fuel Rail Pressure Too Low)

Also, could your Peugeot use like an aftermarket High Fuel Pressure Pump in its place? If it's really a faulty fuel pump, I would recommend an aftermarket Fuel Pump such as Walbro - (In my opinion a good Brand and much cheaper than RM3k+)

My concern is that, if there is a problem with no fuel getting into the car it would cause engine stall which might lead to engine brake.

That would make your car slow down tremendously as if you're pressing the brakes. Dangerous if you're driving at High Speeds. Also, your ECU cuts in with LIMP Mode which also slows the car down wouldn't want that out of the blue happening.

Just my opinion :)

Euro cars are very finicky. Peugeot more so. But I'd heed the warning signs that your car has already given you. These are signs the pump is dying. Something triggered it to fail and the fault code clear forced it out of the way. It's only a matter of time before that problem reoccurs and causes you more grief.

Fix it soon man.

its a 50/50 case.
could be a one time ecu headache fault or could be a sign the pump is indeed slowly dying.
if u want a peace of mind, dont want to be stranded on the roadside, can afford it,then fix it.

do u experience any jerkings? if not then continue using it, if yes better send it to Pug specialist,
but at the mean time try surveying how much the pump costs, at least u are prepared.

Hi everyone, I finally managed to source a peugeot specialist through the help of peugeot 308 club members, costs RM2k only compared to RM3k++ quoted by the SC.. problem solved! :)
