I have a 2005 Gen2. I have these 2 problems.

1. Since last July last year, I had to change the fan 4 times already. The fan would just becomes slow or stop working. As a result, my car would overheat. Luckily, it never stalled. For the first three times, it happens if I drive above 140km. The fourth time, it just happen after a few months even though I did not drive above 140km.

2. If I drive above 130 km for more than a few minutes, my air corn blower would stop working. It would work again if I switched of the engine and start again.

Can anyone help me here.

Thanks

fyi, the fan isnt switch on when the car is in motion, the airflow from the vehicle's motion alone is sufficient for engine cooling purpose. i'd look at the thermostat first, simply remove it out and see if the temperature cools down. if it does, then replace the thermostat with a good unit

Thanks everyone for the advise. How about if :

1. The water in the reserve plastic tank is boiling. I think it happened twice.
2. Most recent is that, it overheat while idling after 1 hour++ but its not overheating when I drive.

when its idling, the fan does play an important role in providing crucial airflow. when does it really overheat? when its driven or when its idling stationery?

There are two instances. The earlier one, five month ago, was when I was driving around 150 km/hr. It overheats, when I look at the engine I can see water was boiling in the plastic reserve tank and pouring out of the hose. I went to proton wakil servis and they say its the fan. So they change the fan. One month later, it overheats again while driving around 140 km/hr , and the same servis centre says its the fan motor that is faulty and change fan motor. After that I did not drive more than 130 km/hr and everything was fine.

However, a week ago, the engine overheats and this time is while it was idling.

Hope this clarifies

if water is boiling in the reserve tank, suspected the water pump faulty.

the belt also plays an important roll, it could slip if its warned therefore wont turn
the water pump properly.

Sent my car to the workshop already. The water pump is ok, the fan is ok, they clean up the radiator which was very dirty/rusty and remove the thermostat. I am not sure the pro or cons of removing the thermostat. Is it advisable to drive a car without a thermostat ?

Your cylinder head gasket is likely to b damaged due to the first overheating, most likely the head is a little warped as well. Bubbles in coolant resevoir is clear indication.

Use bck your thrmostat as its will effect ur fuel economy..ecu will think eng not up to temp and supply richer mix

please, use thermostat..
removing it is not a solution. it will make things go down the drain in the long run..

replacing the thermo for checking purpose is okie as long as its not taking too long a time. the thermostat is put there to ensure tbe engine is warmed asap, to prevent unwanted engine wear as the engine oil does its job well only at a specific temperatur only. if removal of ur thermostat solved the temperatur issue, then most probably u need to replace dat with a good unit. clogged radiator may be give similar problem also, but temp wud rise at a faster rate if the coolant flow is impeded badly

Thanks for the reply everyone.

Out of curiosity, how much time does a car with damaged cylinder head will start to overheat when being driven. I have driven the car to Segamat a few weeks ago, and the car's operation was normal.

Is it normal to see sparks at the fan motor since I can see sparks inside the motor.

I am going to test idling the car for 1-3 hours and see if it will overheat again.

I will also reinstall the thermostat. ( Thanks a lot for the advise )

Test idling the car for 2 hours. So far ok. No overheating like the other day.
