what is dogbox?always come across some people changing their gearbox to dogbox.how is it functioning?whats the pros and cons?

dogteeth gearbox?

if i'm not mistaken, those are the boxes that allow you to perform clutchless shifting. instead of a synchromesh, you have dogteeth gears. or something like that.

any reason to be called dog teeth?? sound so weird...

maybe it look like a dog's teeth. Haha

a kind of gearbox that uses straight cut gears instead of helical gears, and uses toothed dog rings that grabs the gear instead of using synhcronizer rings.

Used in rallies... during the 80s n early 90s. Still in use now but being replaced by SMG-like system.

do u mean dog leg gearbox?

its a special gearbox that has rearranged shift pattern so u can shift faster. The 1st gear for the dogleg is where the 2nd gear is - downward. and 2nd is where 3rd gear is and so forth...
Why?
1st is rarely used on track and most corners are taken with 2nd of 3rd gear. so with this layout, gearshifting time is reduced slightly for better track time.and dog leg gearbox has closer ratio as well....

was widely used in high performance BMWs in the 70's and 80's. they are a rarity nowadays.
