Hi all taikos,

My RS200 (auto) lost a bit of power lately, especially when coming out of corners and overtaking. While cruising is not much of a problem, when accelerating always semput a bit.

Went to see my mechanic & he told me that my catalytic converter (cat) clogged up. His advice was to remove it and replace it with a straight pipe. The exhaust guy told me two 'bagus punya pipe' will cost me around RM400....hmmm

Whats the right thing to do here...?Any advice guys..?

Catcon is a device that converts harmful gasses to environmental friendly gasses..

so, u decide.. to pollute or not to pollute?

if clogged, unscrew.. ketuk2 then put it back on

agree with bro D7zul.

why made u say that ur car loss the power?
removing catcon is one of the easiest way to rack up hp.

Whats a RS200? Renault?

Pollute or not to pollute....good one....hehehe. My mechanic didn't mention anything on the ketuk2 option. Once ur cat tersumbat nothing else to do but just to throw away. Buy a new one too expensive....Other than polluting (a bit...?) more, there wont be any other major problems I guess...thats what I got from the net. Just the idea of cutting it off and replacing it with some other tabong that'll cost RM200 a piece...need some convincing first...

Anyway....thanks a lot guys....

the time when you start worrying on polluting your country is when there are vast amount of hybrid cars on the road, congestion charges and other offsetting methods..

Not advisable to remove the cat as u will also have the same effect
of losing power especially 5AT. You can get a replacement downpipe with the cat from Trial Tuning.

I believe removing catcon for a manual ride is always welcomed. You should punch thru and use back the catcon. I paid 80 Rm for it .. good performance :driver:

Thanks for the feedback Kader.

Question:

1) Did you have a PowerFC to re-tune the A/F + disable O2 sensor? (Wonder if you dynoed before/after)
2) Note of your exhaust:
i- Loudness?
ii- Type of sound? Raspy/Hollow?

Anyone else has done it? Thanks for sharing...

Zeb...
Now that you have installed the PowerFc into your car..you can replaced the whole downpipe with an aftermarket Header unit. But you will have to maybe do some fine retuning..
There is not much effect on the sound of the muffler if you removed the cat..maybe slightly louder.
But the aftermarket header will add the metallic sound that most extractor have when you rev the engine....IMHO.

Hey Ed,

Haha... Word gets around quick!

Thanks for sharing. I'm not so sure about a header upgrade yet but am considering removing the CAT first to see if it makes a diff.

I know its not the right thread but when you gonna start a new one for Altezza drive? :)

I would suggest that you do not remove the cat ...but go find a aftermarket header..later if you find you would prefer the cat again...you can just put it back in again.

Actually anyone can start a new thread ..provided it is not a repetition of another topic.

Hi Bro..
I had Unichip.. & retuned after the catcon punch, extractor & cam advance .. I gain 8hp :proud: I don't think disabling the O2 sensor is a good idea .. FC will be high..

AE101 only have a sensor b4 the catcon.. if u have a sensor after the catcon.. then u have to be careful.. Engine chk light may be ON after punch thru !!

My exhaust note was slightly louder when u rev hard, normal driving was very quiet. I would say .. more raspy .. as the air can rush out much faster.. but it more enjoyable high rev .. without the catcon:driver:

hi bro...

better not to take out the cat con..if wanna take out dont throw the cat away..self keep..replace if with straight pipe.....my mr2 na go and remove cat and put straight pipe my car like less back pressure hence bad accelerating...so i put back muffler(my catcon hilang):bawling::bawling: and my loss power gained...:biggrin:

I agree the back pressure feel less.. But i prefer a punch thru cat con & K&N fliter.. but add S flow end box..
