B20 full race engine keeps blowing out

A friend of mine is having problems on his b20 engine it keeps blowing up.
It’s meant for drag race it has everything changed inside and out.
It only runs up to 2 times then the third run the engine blows he couldn’t reach the final round he only gets up to the qualifying race.
It’s running 11 sec on the quarter mile.

Anybody ?
Or Is this really normal for a race engine?
What could be the cause?

When you say "blow up", what exactly happens? The pistons punching a hole in the block? Valve and pistons hi5 each other? Or what? And since it's a drag engine I'm pretty sure there are secret mods in there you don't know about. Most race prepped engines sacrifice reliability for all out power and I'm sure your friends car is no exception.

You need to know what exactly "blew up" to determine why it detonated

all those 3 if not working well also can blew up no problem...

so need to ask your friend..which problem makes the engine explode first..

It smokes a lot after 3 runs. The piston ring got broken during the run.Rpm reaches 12,000rpm.

2 way to put it;
-Driver driving beyong mechanical limit or
-Engine not built according to 'intended' limit

1. Engine not tuned properly. knocking badly or too lean.
2. Poor engine blueprint (clearance)
3. Engine oil seized or too hot
4. driver over revving and poor shifting
5. any other unknown reason

Usually when I watch legal drag racing those honda with turbos they keep bouncing it over the rev limit(not sure if its rev limiter) when launching then hit 2nd gear still bouncing the rev limit then hit 3rd and hit 4th. If I have time I'm going to watch their run.
